Quiver for 56" Shrew
«
on:
February 28, 2021, 03:36:04 PM »
My hunting style has changed over the years to where quivers attached to the bows are much more practical for me than back quivers. I've decided on the strap on attachment and am wondering what strap on quivers others are using on their short Shrew bows?
Is the "kickback" version something that is a plus with these quivers?
Any pictures of quivers attached to Shrews would be appreciated.
Thanks.

A mate of mine was hunting with a thunderchild and a Marksman quiver before he passed away. Marksman has set back brackets so you can customize postioning. they're a tradgang sponsor too.

you may want the setback feature on your Shrew if you hunt from the ground and might be shooting from your knees or seat of you pants possibly.Helps keep your nocks and fletching off the ground better or brushing up against something that could create noise as you prepare to shoot.Bow balance is typically good as well.
I would probably look at Great northern kickback and or kickback extreme. They can match your bow as well pretty good with thier color selections. If you go that way they have the longbow model and or adjustable model thats more versatile for different length risers. One last thing they have 2 different gripper styles. One is inline where all the arrows line up in a row.The other one has 2 arrows toward the inside and 3 on the outside out front. Some prefer the inline and some prefer the other version.

This is Eagles Flight Archery quiver on a 56” Classic Hunter II.
Tim Cosgrove should have the new Great Northern built Shrew quiver any day now as well. You could email him
[email protected]
about getting one of those with the Shrew logo on the hood.

I would suggest Big Jim's quiver. Very adjustable and fits on every bow I have.

Thanks for the replies thus far. One question I have concerning the strap-ons that are two separate pieces with no joining frame of any sort (Big Jim's, Thunderhorn, etc.) is if the top and bottom tend to independently change position? In my mind it seems as if the types that are connected by some sort of frame would be more stable on the bow??? Anything to this, or am I way off base?

Kevin, it is probably a matter of personal choice. I have the Great Northern - which I like. I also have the Big Jim's and the versatility of that quiver is why I like it. I have not had a problem with the hood and the arrow holder falling out of alignment. I use it on a short bow, longbow, recurve and my selfbows - plus it is relatively inexpensive. Just my 2 cents.

I purchased a Big Jim's quiver last year and it is the one I like best out of the three mentioned. They all work I just found Big Jim's quiver works best for me.

The EFA works great, has lots of options, including a “totem” that holds the top and bottom together to prevent movement. The great northern works well too, holds an extra arrow but is physically bigger. I use them both depending on the situation.

I'm a GN and Thunderhorn fan. All my GN are 3 up front 2 in back on two 60" longbows. TH has five in row on 62" longbow. One TH has 6 in a row on a recurve. Another TH waiting for a ride has 4 in line with room for one more gripper. I light the lightweight of the GN even loaded with arrows, they provide good balance. TH aren't that heavy either. JMVHO

I tried just about everything on a 56" one piece Pronghorn longbow before settling on a Great Northern strap on Extreme Kickback. I sometimes shoot full length woodies which are almost 34" counting the nock and broadhead. With everything except the extreme kickback, my arrows were longer than my lower limb. My second choice was a Selway strap on mini with a 6 arrow gripper but only using 4 grippers to achieve kickback. It worked almost as well because the new strap on design places the hood almost 2" above the strap. Good luck.

Thats true. All setbacks are not created equal as for as the setback feature. Some set them setback barely. The GN Extreme sets them back at way more of an angle than any other I am aware of.So it might better for really short bow or like was posted above if you have really long arrows

I mainly use Great Nottherns cause they are a bomb proof quiver and very solid. I just recently got a Big Jim quiver with his kick back bracket you can purchase additionally for a reasonable price. You can also adjust the kick back position with it and it attaches the two pieces together making it solid. Haven’t had a chance to use it yet but it also seems to be bomb proof and well made.
