Super Glue ????

What's ya all buy for super glue?

I've been buying the cheap stuff at harbor freight, those little dinky half ounce tubes.

Ya get to use them once or twice and then they self destruct and glue their cap on or plug up.

Even other super glue containers I've had some problems with the cap or the nozzle plugging up.

I wipe the nozzle clean but always seems to be problematic.

Any suggestions?

Hobby Lobby.   They have thin, medium and thick.   $4.99 a bottle.   I'm using one for over a year now.

Last month I decided to try a bottle of the gorilla blue cap fot fletching.   It was separated in the bottle into a thin liquid and a thick gumbo.   :(

I’ve been using Gorilla glue. They have thin and gel and it seems to last longer and it doesn’t glue itself shut.

Starbond, stored in the freezer. Does not go bad. Also have some Loctite CA in a metal squeeze tube thats been in the freezer for at least 3 yrs and its still good.

I do like Mark, whatever is available at Wal Mart or ACE Hdwe, usually Locktite or Gorilla glue in the small plastic bottle. My wife uses it more than I do in her art work and never cleans the spout so I have to pry off the developed tumor on top. Earlier this past winter I had a hard time finding any super glue that wasn't already solidified or thickened new in the bottle. The last time or two it has been OK.

Flem, I seen that Starbond at amazon this morning.

I like the fact they give ya extra caps and nozzles.

Has a good warranty too, that's good for glue!

I get the JB weld super glue at Menards. Yeah got to keep them up right. I have more trouble with thin stuff getting a sticky cap.

Starbond is good stuff. I cant say its any better than other brands, but they have specialty formulas for specific applications, if you need something other than standard fare. The spare caps and nozzles are a bonus for sure!

I buy mine at the Dollar Tree. They have a four pack of tiny little one use tubes for a buck.

I’ve been using starbond a few years now and really like it. The 4 oz bottles last at room temp until empty for me. Which might be a year. I use the thin for crack filling as it’ll deep right in through. I may have glued my hand to a few bows  that way while wondering why it was soaking up soo much glue. And medium for everything else. They actually. One with a couple caps per bottle.

I like Loctite CA in the larger clear bottles ... more glue for my buck. 420 for deep penetration, which I store in the fridge. Just regular super glue for everything else. Wiping the upright tip with a rag and squeezing the bottle slightly to blow out the drop of glue which tends to hang and set up in the nozzle - wiping all that clean helps to prevent clogs. When needed one of those T pins works great to get the juice flowing. Ditto on storing CA upright.

We go through a lot of stickfast.. I use the two ounce bottles, but also sell the one ounce bottles.

Mostly, if you "burp" the bottle and then wipe off the tip, you should be good for the cap. Once the cap starts getting stuck, i just throw the cap away. The glue will be fine with the cap off for weeks if not months. Never had a bottle last more than a couple of months I would guess.
During show season, i don't get as many bows built so the bottles sit a lot. Never had an issue.

Jim do you store it at room temp or in the fridge or freezer?

Roy, we go through our inventory pretty quickly and it sleeps in the fridge.. The stuff used in my shop never sees the inside of a fridge once it is opened.

What I use the most is the thin. Ebony and many other exotics are prone to cracks while drying. .. heck, osage and walnut is as well. The thin CA is a staple in my shop.
