One piece recurves?
« on: March 19, 2021, 02:18:17 PM »
I’m one of those fellers that love one piece recurves! It seems that they are becoming harder to find. Are bowyers going away from the one piece? If you all don’t mind, can you give me some of your recommendations for bowyers that still build the tried and true one piece recurve.
Thanks
Jason

Of the bows I am personally familiar with, Black Widow and Robertson make very fine one-piece recurves.  Robertson offers the true one-piece recurve, as well as a two piece recurve with bow bolt, which is my favorite because it feels and looks like a one-piece but can be broken down into two pieces if desired.  I'm sure there are many more that I’m not familiar with.

Try a Javaman Assyrian and you'll wonder why more aren't made like that. Also I have a John McCullough Grayling Spirit, if you can find one, you'll be happy you did. For the longest time one piece recurves have been my mainstay. I appreciate the simplicity and have never complained about their performance either.

Martin still makes a few. So does Wes Wallace. Their are a number of bowyers that make 50’s style one piece recurves as well.

For what it's worth, I think I would also include Cari- Bow into this mix.

Bear archery still has several models of recurves.

I’m the same way. Just something about a one piece bow that appeals to me!

I shoot a Timberhawk Strike. He’s out of Indiana so might be close to you.

Bear, Blacktail, Widow, Martin and I'm sure there's more. I bought a 62" PA-X Widow two years ago. Love it.

Scroll through the Sponsor Links and check out one of the many great Bowyers at a time. You’ll be surprised how many are available. Good luck I lovem too!

I owned one of the earliest Chinooks that Dan Toelke made, it is a particularly nice 1 pc. recurve, stable, very fast and very quiet. He also makes a fine static recurve, the 64" Super Static which I've shot as well. It can accommodate a really long draw length.

I have a one piece Robertson and a one piece Widow. I didn’t think I’d miss a take down until I flew to Kodiak Island with my one piece. Not that big a deal but it was more expensive as I had to check it instead of packing it in my duffel.

I think the new Widow PA is a dandy recurve.  Love a one piece   Lots of good old vintage bows are one pc.

I had a Damon Howatt Hunter that Martin still makes I believe.  A Big River that probably won't be made again.  Kota makes one, there are many others.

I have a Strike on the way, supposed to get it next week. Scott doesn’t live to far from me, takes me about 20 minutes to get to his shop. Also have an older Bear Grizzly I shoot a lot. Mainly look’n for custom bowyers. Does Robertson still make the Tribal Styk? I’ve spoke with Blacktail which is not to far from either and they’re aren’t making many one piece these days. Looking at Wes Wallace as a maybe.
Thanks everybody.

I just got a Hurst “Prana”. Still trying to figure out which arrow it likes, but a very nice shooting bow.

We do them and one piece bows are our passion.  We do not do a 3 pc at all.   www.stjoeriverbows.com
