I would like to look for them, but I don't know anything about shrooms. Neither do any of my friends. I'm afraid I may be missing some real goodies.
Sam look up learn your land on you tube. I’m pretty careful with you tube cause anyone can post and there’s some bad stuff. This guy is educated and very easy to understand. He has id videos, finding videos, etc. Morels are one you about can’t go wrong with. If they look like morels and are completely hollow inside you’ve got a morel. Half frees look a little different but are also hollow inside and completely safe
Not sure where you live but pheasant back or dryads saddle is typically about the same time. Look it up in learn you land. So are ramps, fiddleheads. In north jersey/southern ny ramps are up but that’s it so far.
One easy place to look cause I’m sure you can Id tree the grow near is old Apple trees. Gotta be careful with too many there though cause the soil could be contaminated. There’s lots of other trees they associate with. Find out which they are locally, dead elm, tulip, sycamore, cherry, ash, etc in dif areas. You also need to know stage. Tulip trees will be alive, elm dead or dying, etc.
Local mushroom clubs in your area will prob be dirt cheap and have forays where they id all sorts of stuff and help you learn. Think the one around here is 5-10 bucks.
One more thing, raw morels are toxic they say. I’ve never tried to find out. Make sure you cook em
