Has anyone ever taken a 6x48" belt sander and turned it on its side to use as a small edge sander?

If its the same exact sander this is what I did... They may have changed the design...
I drilled two holes near the bottom and bolted it down with lags.... I put an aluminum plate under one leg to keep it from digging into the wood... Near the other bolt I used a wedge of hardwood to adjust the height to get a 90* angle on the drum of the sander... On the front (under the platen) I drilled two holes for 1/2 inch bolts and threaded them... I use those bolts to adjust the angle of the platen to 90*... Your best to have the bolt heads under the table and adjust from there... I included a pic of my lam sander since it was sitting on there... I flattened about a 4" portion of the middle of the drive drum to sand lams and do profile sanding... Make sure you make the table good and stout so the it does not move or warp... The only down side is removing the two bolts to change the sanding belt... I would also use some 3/8 to 1/2" plywood blocks under the legs to raise it a hair so that you have more room for the belt adjuster...

Nice Rich!
I just bought the same belt sander. Probably going to do the same kind of set up but on hinges so I can use the disc sander as well
