I finally got around to putting this together, I've been wanting a new personal bow. I put a 1/2" G10 Ibeam in the riser, first time working with it. That stuff adds a lot of weight! I knew it would add some but I wasn't expecting this amount. I wanted to shoot both sets of limbs thru a chrono to compare them but my chrono must've died. The static tip limbs have a little string noise that I think is the fast flight sting, my other recurves have the same noise with fast flight. The longbow limbs are super quiet and seem quicker than the other longbows I've built. Riser is Ziricote with spalted Hackberry limb veneers, cores are boo. Longbow limbs are 64" and the static tip are 63" both 55 pounds. If I ever get my chrono working I'll updated the thread.
I got my new Chrono today so I did some testing. All testing was done with 8.5 grains per pound arrows with 5 inch 3 fletch feathers drawn to 31's and 10 shots averaged. Both sets of limbs were very consistent with a lot of duplicate speeds. All strings were set up with beaver fur string silencers and served double nock set.
Longbow limbs set at 7 1/2 brace. 16 strand D97 191fps 14 strand B55 184fps
Recurve limbs set a 8" brace. 16 strand D97 194fps 14 strand B55 186fps
Out of curiosity I dropped the brace down to 7 1/2 on the recurve limbs with the D97 string. It averaged 199fps with a number of shots in the low 200s and still behaved well. Arrows are showing weak with both sets so I'm gonna have to go up in spine.
