Names on Bows??

It doesn't matter much to me either way.

I do have a bow with Fred Bear's name on it. I guess he felt the need to sign it. I hope it didn't hurt the value of it!

You can always change your name to match the one on the bow. Social security numbers are another story.

The Pronghorn 3-pc. 'Green Machine' longbow I shoot best has another's name on it, and apparently had at least two other owners in between before I got a hold of it.  I doubt anyone else will own it before I die.

I traded straight up for a 1-pc. Pronghorn (wanted a take-down for trips and a lighter weight) with my name on it, and originally thought I might not like the fact that I traded away a perfectly good bow with my name on it for one that didn't have it.  Has not made one bit of difference to me...

I got my name on my first custom bow, because I was all excited and figured I'd never get rid of it.  I don't order them with names any more knowing I might have a harder time selling down the road.  Hasn't been an issue though, because I find it very hard to part with most my bows, I just keep buying.  I don't mind buying a used bow with a name on it, since I'm usually getting a nice custom bow for almost 50% of new sometimes.

I put names on some of my bows...my favorite bow is "Trusty".  There is "Buff Bow" and "Mini-Trusty" as well.  The bows do have to earn their name and I have several on the rack that have not done so as of yet.  I'm not sure how the next owners will feel about the names on them but I'll be dead then so I don't really give it too much thought!  I've only sold one bow and I still regret it.  I've decided to be a "collector" instead.

Have to agree with TexMex. Its part of the bows history. It is especially nice if you know the person whose name is on the bow. If you respect him or her, that is even better. I have a bow that was built for Todd Pendleton. He is a fellow TradGanger with a good reputation on this site. I've never met him, but I'm proud to shoot a bow with his name on it.

As a bowyer the choice is up to the customer, it is on my order form.... but I don't put my name on my shooters... I do think that for 75% of the shooters out there, they'd prefer not to have another's name on the bow.

WOW ! I was under the impression if you named your bow and it was on the bottom limb and not the top limb it was 5 fps faster

If you have a bow made by Fred Anderson, he gave it a name.
I have two, named bows by him.

I've had a number of bows with other peoples names on them, and it doesn't bother be at all.  When I pick one up to go hunting I just think to myself "come on Mark, (or Fred, or Alex, or Tim), let's go huntin"!"   It helps give the bow a little personality.

The first custom bow I had made for me had my name on it.  Sold it in a moment of weakness, and then a year or two later bought it back for more than I sold it for.  It had passed through a couple different owners in between, and I sure was glad nobody removed my name.

I have bows with other folks names on them, and some with my own. Two I have named myself: "Thanksgiving" and "Showtime".

A good hunting buddy passed away about 4 years ago. I have one of his bows with his name on it. It brings back memories to take it hunting every once in awhile.

I held off for a little while just to read the posts..this is a great thread.There are lots of ways to remove the names.I think Black Widow sells a small sticker that will cover the X-owners name on Widows great idea..You can also take some 600 grit wet dry sand paper and sand it off as there is normaly a couple layers of finish on the bow and then the lettering and then a couple layers of finish over the lettering.So if you don't sand through the bottom layers of finish you should be fine......however with that said...I would like to add,I've shot several different bows over the years with the name Bear on them.....any idea who he is ??? great thread.Just shoot em,the name wo'nt affect the proformance at all............bowdoc

I have a question? Is it normal for a bow to come with your name on it? The reason I ask is because I  ordered a custom bow a few months ago, and when it  arrived yesterday the bowyer wrote "Custom made for....." I hate the way it looks, and did not request it? Is this normal?

I purchased a custom bow years back and the bowyer did not ask, but it came with my name on it, I too did not like like it as no one calls me David yet bigger than life there it was, a name I only hear when someone is mad at me. LOL!!

I like the Bowyers name on my bows.  When I bought my first custom from Bighorn back in 1988 G. Fred ask me if I wanted my name on it and I told him no but I would love it if he would do me the honor of signing it and he did.  That bow is special and I think it would be to someone else if I sold it, which I won't.

I think adding a name to a bow just adds a little more "spirit" to the bow. I know that when I think of my sticks and strings and call them by a nickname it just seems a little more spritual. Then again maybe its just me

WOW!?!? Selling stickers exclusivly to cover previous owners names? Them there spider boys got just about every angle covered...
