Made first youth board bow (Updated pics)
« on: February 14, 2007, 09:48:00 AM »
I saw the post on here on how to make a youth bow so i thought i would give it a shot since i'm in the process of building my first board bow anyway. After about 3 hours i was done it it shoots very nice. I used red oak for the bow and red oak and poplar for the handle. I'm also making my cousin some arrows and an arm guard so i'll post more pics when i finish with them. The only tools i used to make this bow was a 4 way rasp, belt sander, and a rat tail file. Let me know what you think!

Looks really nice Adam!!!

Make sure you wear a mask while sanding, you do'nt want to damage up your lungs.

Keep in mind the handle at the fades should transition into the limbs gradually. Steep fades can cause the handle to pop loose on that type of bow. Though it being a light weight bow it should not be a problem for you or your cousin.

Very nice work, is it your first shooter that you've made yourself?

Osagetree- This is kind of my first shooter. I was working on a board bow for myself then i saw how to build a youth bow and was going to finish mine first, then i found out my cousin was going to be in town this weekend so i went ahead and built his seeing it wouldn't take as long as mine. But the one i'm working on is a red oak board bow 66" ntn and i have it pulling 20" right now but its still has a little too much weight to it. But hopefully i'll finish it tomorrow since i don't have to go to college tomorrow.
