Best quiver for short recurve?
« on: June 04, 2021, 03:53:56 PM »
I recently purchased a 50" recurve from Crooked Stic. It is one sweet shooting bow, but I am trying to figure out what bow quiver would be best? My great northern strap on doesn't fit well, and my EFA is a bolt on so it is out as well. Does anyone have a bow this short or similar that they use a bow quiver on? What would you recommend? Thanks in advance

I use Selway slip-ons.  The problem with a bow quiver on such a short bow is, because one needs to put the attachment grippers onto the fade outs, i.e., shouldn't extend beyond them, the two quiver pieces are close together, spreading out the fletched ends of the arrows quite far.  Too, because the arrows will likely extend to or beyond the lower limb tip, they'll usually end up in the dirt every time you lean the bow up against a tree, unless you remember to lean it upside down.

My buddy likes to go without a quiver on his 52 inch Super Shrew Classic Hunter II.  Some bows just go better without.  I use a Great Northern setback on my 54” Super Shrew Classic Hunter II

That quiver of Big Jims looks pretty good for short bows, and having the kick back attachment looks like it might be a winner!

The setback feature is always a good idea with short bows!Especially if you hunt from the ground. Not so important from a treestand or shooting when standing.Too bad the GN will not work as with that short a bow it be nice with the setback extreme.

I used an Eagles flight with setback on my Toelke Troll that was a 52 inch recurve. It worked well.I also used it with my Javaman Helms deep that was 54 inches and had a very short riser.A little more setback might be nice for a really short bow. Most are about the same accept for the GN Extreme setback.Hence the name Extreme.

The boa is not set back therefore it is not any good for short bows. Just because you like them doesn't make them the best for every application.

EFA set back.

Not opinion, fact. Arrow stick in the dirt. I have 2 Boas, but they are not on my short bows for that very reason.  Again, fact.

Here’s my Thunderhorn Small fry with the kickback option on my 59” Prana .
It can be adjusted for more angle if need be on shorter bows as well but I have it set where I want it.  They call it the “Linx” and can adjust the height as well.
Many company’s are starting to use this option which is nice.

Here is a “BOA” in the Linx model with the setback bracket .Which can be made as a solid support post or an adjustable one.
I have the small Fry and talk about a “Solid” hold with no vibration or rattle.
Really made well bow quiver as many others are here.
It’s just really nice that many company’s are offering the “Set back “ option now for those
That prefer a quiver where the fletching can be set back so it doesn’t hit the ground if you are a ground hunter like myself.

I use either a Great Northern strap on kick back or a Thunderhorn Linx . Keefer is right that is a great quiver and is rock solid.

My mate Paul Rea used a Marksman strap down quiver on his Thunderchild on hunts in New Zealand. Works great and is available with setback brackets.

I had a Selway Mini put on my 52" Shrew last weekend and I love it
