This is an exciting thread  :scared: :scared: I agree baiting bears is not as easy as it looks, lots of hard work and sweat. When baiting was legal in WA and I was your age I used to pedal bike in on an old logging road with a 50# box of salmon heads in a waxed box strapped to my pack frame .. those were the days  :jumper: :jumper:

Good luck and be safe  :archer2:

Been a good few days, been seeing bears every sit.  Had a good brown in two nights ago, and had blacks in the other nights.  My one stand is slightly out of place, the bears are catching our wind when they come in.  They stop 30 yards away and most of the time catch our wind.  They are in a spot that we could just shoot them right there, but we decided to hold off until we can get them to commit to the bait.  A few days back to work and back in the stand Wednesday. Going to adjust the stands Wednesday midday before the sit.  Fingers crossed!

Honestly this spring is more learning about the brown bears. We have so many blacks here I could probably just stand by the bait, next to a tree.  The only thing I’ve seen keep them off a bait is brown bears.  The blacks have smelt me seen me holding a bag of dog food, just to return later that night.

A few pics from the stand.

Checked the bait today, been raining a fair amount.  Had a big black bear show up, going after him tomorrow (or tonight depending on where you are or your shift)

I was shooting a Stalker Fxt but it was killing me tossing it in the boat.  Right now I'm running a older sky 17 ilf riser with stalker short ILF limbs.  I'm also setting up a blackwolf riser but still trying to figure out a limb combo.  Both rigs pull 55lbs give or take.

Arrows are something I'm considering switching, I've always shot lighter arrows (450-480 total) for everything elk on down.  After seeing the first few brown bears I hadn't even considered switching, after seeing a few of the big ones I'll probably bump it up a little.

The area I'm hunting is in predator control, so I won't be too picky next spring on the first tag.  After I take a few browns, I'll make my decision on what's actually needed.  The bears on bait make it pretty easy to shoot something heavy since the shots will be close.  I just hate heavy arrows for what most of my hunting entails.
