Feather to nose again

I just reread my post in the feather to nose thread and wanted to update my findings.  I was suffering from frequent collapses--- id get into my back and then let myself creep forward until the shot broke, resulting in far left misses ( i shoot left handed).  I decided in needed to work with the clicker again and i hate the clicker.  Instead i fletched an arrow so as to touch it to my nose upon expansion and with some minute adjustments ive shot my highest and-- here's the best part-- most consistent 3d scores yet.  It helps me focus on expanding through that shot and as a by product ive gone up in arrow spine ( my old sinking forward shot had cost me 3/4" of draw length).
I was using 3x4" fletching, but didn't like how the one hen feather was positioned straight down toward shelf-- although i didn't see any clearance issues.  I changed to 4x2 3/8" square backed feathers and now get 3-4 feathers out of one full length turkey feather.  The orientation sets fletching up for no contact.
Just wanted to share my results as it shows how important it is to revisit things sometimes.

P.S.--- the other benefit is that i can shoot in longbow or recurve class as i have no clicker or grip sear on my bow, so im in compliance with the rules and have a reliable trigger.

I wasn’t aware that a grip sear, was not allowed in any competitions.  Of course each competition has its own particular rules.  Seems odd, as a grip sear could be nothing more than some feature, like some checkering, that is already on a bow.  I’ve never used a grip sear other than trying one long enough to decide I didn’t like it, but I always like to see the logic in these things.

McDave, some of the shoots i go to don't allow or would move me into barebow class if i had added a separate grip sear or button to the bow.  I think 
ibo rules have changed to address this, but im not sure on that one.  Using a feature of the bow itself, like checkering as you stated doesn't violate any rules, since no separate mechanism has been added.
Grip and tab sears have gained popularity recently and, of course anytime someone is winning, attention is paid to their equipment and how they're using it.

So if someone built a bow with a decorative ridge that happened to be located near your thumb, that would be okay?

On a personal level, I have been using a metronome program recently to help me slow down my shot.  The program is free, and is an app on the iPhone.  You can set the number of seconds, and it will click at the desired interval until you stop it.  It plays through my hearing aids, but would also play through an earbud.  It doesn’t make any audible sound outside the hearing aid or earbud.  It essentially functions like a grip sear, but I don’t have to move any part of my body to use it.  I would probably use your feather to nose trigger, but it doesn’t work well as a trigger with a dead release.  I haven’t considered using the metronome in a tournament, but I wonder if it would be legal if I did.

The metronome is a cool idea!  Anything that helps slow the shot down to where its controlled.

If you're interested, the name of the app is Tempo.  I set it at six second intervals, which is the time I need to draw and hold for two seconds.  I use a click sound, because it is less distracting to me than a tone.

McDave I think you have something here with the Metronome, at the very least as a consistent training aid !!!
