In times like these I think it's looking great black palm wood, is it stable? I've had red palmwood that twist it up on me like crazy. I never did make anything of it. Yours looks great 👍

My first time using it. It splinters easily if you work it the wrong direction with a file. It does look nice but I won’t make a habit of using it as a main riser wood. I think it would be better suited if used in a flare or accent stripe.

Nah, you have a bit of reflex to take the hanger look out of it. Looks good.

Really sharp looking   No finish on it? Looks really smooth. I have never worked with Black Palm and am guessing it takes some grain filling?

Looks great, I love black palm. I justpicked up 2 blocks of it but its not dry enough to use for a while. Moisture was 23% so will be some time before I can get into it.
It does splinter easy, and slivers from it are gnarly.

It does take a lot of grain filling. This has 5 rounds of finish and wet sanding.

I use a two-part marine epoxy. Works great for those deep pore, wide grained hardwoods. I go with the fast hardener about every 45 minutes I can put on another coat. Only mix up as much as you can get on one time because it won't be any good later it's easy enough I mix it up in plastic pill/shot glasses. You measure it by volume not by weight. If you go by weight you'll run into too much or too little. I will usually put on 5 coats on woods like Wenge, Zebrawood. I don't sand it until they're all on there. That way I don't end up with white powder down in the bottom of some of the deeper pores. I'll see if I can get a picture of it when I get home. Works great another fellow bowyer suggested it to me. Here it is. If it's expensive kind of but it goes a long ways and what are your bows worth a crappy finish. If you want to fill them up to glass smooth this is the stuff and then maybe do a final spray of your favorite gloss epoxy. Sand then do your final polish or satin spray. That way they don't turn out milky. I use minwax helmsman's bar varnish for my very last coat and satin. The wood is totally protected.  Oh and I only learned this from other guys especially my buddy out in Oregon Richard. JF

Forgot I can send more than one photo on this site. I think this is the picture after four coats of the moss epoxy the quick stuff it's over Bacote which isn't really too bad to fill over. JF

This is after the fill work with the moss epoxy final sand 320 looks good no low spots no shiny divots hairs. Now I'll sand this down with 400 and then spray it with my minwax indoor outdoor helmsman satin. Because that's the shine I like. After that scratch it up after this anybody can go to the hardware store and pick up this clear and sand out scratches themselves and reclear. lays down nice and it works for me.
