Went blind in dominant eye
« on: August 12, 2021, 11:04:22 PM »
Four years ago, I suffered an amoeba infection and went blind in my dominant eye. My business partner robbed me of everything I had and beat feet. I am now getting a cornea transplant and want to replace my long bow. I couldn’t remember my username from back in the day, so hi y’all, again!

Trying to buy off of the classifieds

Very sorry to hear about your misfortune, but, hopefully, you will overcome these hardships. Take heart, I understand that Howard Hill shot right handed but was left eye dominant, and he made out all right.

Eye dominance isn't fixed.  You can train it.

Well the eye thing stinks.
So does the business partner thing.
I'd say you're due for a good turn or two in life.

Best wishes Steven, I had a cornea transplant in 1986 due to an accident. I hope your eye surgery goes well.

I'd hunt that bastard down and get me a fresh cornea for the transplant.  Welcome back!

My husband does not have a dominant eye, he had 2015 vision in both eyes, he shoots right and left handed. Last spring with a sneezing fit, he had a blood vessel break in his left eye pupil and lost most of the sight of it.  It was almost better and he had another, now he says that things look much smaller from his left eye and wavy. He can shoot right handed but constantly complains about his lack of depth perception.  Hopefully by deer season things will be better. But losing sight in one eye is a traumatic experience for someone that is used to have eagle vision. I hope things work out for you as well.

Transplant went well, ended up having to have a cataract surgery which was caused by the steroid drops post transplant. Vision has improved quite a bit in the last two years. I get fitted for contacts and glasses on monday 1-29-24. Its been a long time coming.

Come monday I’ve decided to wear an eyepatch over my now dominant left eye to try and train my brain to be right eye dominant again. Shooting with both eyes open right now (right handed bow) I am super inconsistent, hitting 20” target only half the time from 12 yards :(  If I close my left eye, even though vision is really blurry with right eye, my group shrinks to 8” at 12 yards. Mind you, before the amoebas, I was shooting 6” groups at 30 yards. Determined to get good enough to hunt with a bow again!
