The HIGHLIGHTS' forum is wonderful for reading some great and inspiring hunting details. Also, there are individual harvest threads on PowWow which I very much enjoy reading

Thought it would be advantageous to have a collective single thread of 2021/2022 fall/winter harvests. In addition to pics, there would
be listed the following:

-Bow and actual draw wt at archers draw length
-Arrow specs including BH
- Shot distance and approximate recovery distance
- Date and approximate time of day

Hopefully, I too, will be able to contribute to this thread.

One expectation this season was to have my tracking pup reliable and well trained. She has performed quite well during her training session which started at 9 weeks old. She will be one year old in October. She both quickly and successfully recovered both deer on Saturday and Sunday.

She stayed amped hours after the track and had to be in the UTV with the carcass.

Good stuff scott. Trying to get my dog Leroy intrested in tracking. It's there but I lack in ability. My feeble attempts at dragging deer liver hasn't gone very well. Leroy will just run to whomever is holding the drag. If I'm doing it solo, he gets distracted and frustrated too easily. When I back up and only do a 5 foot drag, I feel like it's too boring for him. Granted hes not what some would consider a sporting breed but I have to think it's there. I just need to figure out how to encourage it

Hello Charlie….

Have been fortunate to have K9 Recovery as part of our group. They have at least two world class dogs. Hank was featured in North American Whitetail last September. Their services command hi fees and have always covered us as a gratuity. I very much dislike taking advantage of their services and wanted deer tracking dog of my own. Note: Hank is a supersized aggressive bloodhound. Following his lead is far tougher than I would believe most would have imagined. An energetic beagle seems to easily satisfy me.

The guidance I received was to train them to track injury pheromone. So I cut several hides up into 12” squares and put them in individual zip lock bags and froze them….take one hide and thaw in the fridge….use one hide for approximately two weeks and then discard it…

Drag the hide on a telescoping pole…at 7 months she had advanced to tracking over 800 yards…Note: she is oblivious to who holding on to the 50’ leash.

I didn’t seek further guidance since she was so determined and successful.

There are some great resources available that would provide competent information as I my knowledge wouldn’t feel a thimble.

There’s a reason dogs are bred the way they are. You say it’s not a sporting breed, even if so the blood it carries might not be sporting. The desire, brains, biddabiliy, nose, etc may not be there and you could have mediocre results at best. Just FYI, not all dogs are created equal

Unfortunately if a person misses a day or two on here some of the kill posts can get lost in a long thread like this. I like to see the kills made by other members and think they deserve an attaboy for them because this is doing it the harder way.

This thread is in no way intended to eliminate nor discourage individual thread success stories. Those individual harvest success threads are cherished.

Its purpose is merely to bundle the success pics with hunting setups in one central thread.

Much can be gained and appreciated by having the compiled list of accomplishments of the Trad Gang members.

Here is one I shot 8/23/2021 hunting at Whitefish Lodge, Wawa, Ontario. I was using a Black Widow PLX, 47#@ 28", drawing 28". Arrows were GT traditional XT's, 600 spine, cut to 29". Broad head was 125 grn Woodsman, with 35 grn screw in adapter. I shot the bear slightly quartering away, and I thought the hit might have been a little too far back. After an autopsy I found the arrow had penetrated the bears heart. The shot was about 12 yards, and the bear went about 40 yards after the shot. It was quite warm the evening of the shot, so we gutted the bear in the field and didn't get a chance to weigh the whole bear. It was a nice, mature boar. I hunted 2 days, and saw 16 bears! It was a great hunt. I shot the bear at about7:00 P.M.
