I agree with you guys. There isn't much better than sitting around the camp fire with a good group of friends in bow camp, sipping on a good bourbon and then crawling into a sleeping bag. Some of the ones I usually have around hunting camp or the hunting cabin are Four Roses single barrel, Elijah Craig, Bulleit Rye, Basil Hayden, Woodford Reserve or Larceny. They are relatively inexpensive and seem to be crowd favorites that most guys enjoy. I do stock some better stuff at the house!
A dozen years ago one of my sons brought a bottle of Tullamore Dew into camp one fall. It was a big hit with the guys and we kind of adopted it as our camp whiskey for toasts since then. Since that point in time I have always had a bottle and a pack of the little red solo cups in camp. When someone brings in a deer, we sit around that night and drink a toast of Tullamore to both the hunter and the animal. It has become a tradition. I carry a small flask of it in my pack on hunts for the same reason. I have been involved in a lot of guys harvesting their first deer with a bow. We recover it and they are understandably excited. We sit there for a moment to savor the experience and I will pull out that flask and toast the deer. I have had guys come up to me 7-8 years later and tell me that that cold, snowy night on the side of the mountain when we recovered their spike buck, then passed that flask of Tullamore back and forth is one of their fondest memories.
