Bourbon and Bows

Many, many years ago, Maker's Mark had a Gold bourbon, complete with gold wax over the cap.  It was really, really nice.  They discontinued it, and supposedly replaced it with the 46, not the same in my opinion.
What i am working on right now is my own infinity bottle.  I started on it a few months ago with an old crystal decanter my Dad had purchased from a Reserve Barrel about 40 years ago.  I am looking forward to sampling the contents after a few more months of filling it.
Regarding Maker's Mark, I am going to be visiting the distillery next Spring.  My Dad purchased an entire barrel over 25 years ago, and he never picked it up.  It has since been emptied and filled again, awaiting him to get it.  Since his ascension over 5 years ago, I have been trying to have it shipped, but they will not, not even to a ATF or State Liquor Authority licensed agent.  I have to go there and get it myself.  It will be a whole experience though.  I will be able to assist in the opening of the barrel, the filling of the bottles, the dipping of the bottles in the wax, and then packing up the bottles into cases for the trip back.  I am told between 15 and 20 cases.

BTW, for what I current imbibe in, be it scotch or bourbon, I keep them in my freezer.  They will be neat, but cold when I pour them out to drink.  It is a different experience, the liquor becomes viscous, close to thin pancake syrup, and as it warms in your mouth, you get multiple layers of flavor.

When I can get it I keep white lightning in the freezer for the same reason. Seems to make it smoother for sipping.
 I was given a bottle of Blanton's a few years ago and really enjoyed it. Also a bottle with a gold key hanging on it. Don't remember the name of that one.

Not me I like my Bourbon neat and room temp. Try this sometime, pour your bourbon in a round snifter glass climb in a hot tub, let the glass float, then just sit back and casually sip your spirits. It gets to your head faster. OH, and a good cigar goes goods with it too.

I like it neat and in a Glen Cairn glass that will warm in your hand similar to the way brandy warms in a brandy snifter.
luckily, I get to do some of the bourbon tour in about a week!

I reach for Knob Creek since I can't Buffalo Trace here where I live..  I always bring a some Buffalo home when I am out of state.

Thanks Ray, I'll check out Old Forester.  The Makers Mark tours seem to be full while we will be there but I am a Makers Mark Ambassador for life, so, maybe they'll fit us in.

I'm a Scotch guy myself but seldom can afford the really good stuff. Glenfiddich is pretty tasty, though. I prefer it neat or with two or three drops of water only. A cool room temperature is just about right.

I'll pass on the Bourbon but enjoy a nice Padron cigar after dinner on special occasions. My everyday cigar is a Romeo Y Julieta.

It would have to include Blanton's, Makers 46 and Woodford reserve.
Favorite rye would have to be Basil Hayden's dark rye.

Here is my up-to-date bourbon collection.

If I were going to put bourbon on my personal bar to serve guests, I would get a bottle of eagles rare, Russell’s 10 year, and Woodford reserve.

If I wanted to have an upgraded Bourbon bar selection I would go for Makers Mark 46, old Forrester 1920 or 1910 and perhaps Michters 10 year old/Angels Envy or Four Roses Select Barrel.
