Current status of bear paw glass
« on: September 04, 2021, 10:10:33 PM »
A search of bear paw clear glass shows it comes in light and then heavy compared to Gordon’s glass. What is the current take on on the outcome of a bear paw bow.  Have to make a light weight and plan on using .030 clear bear paw

Bear Paw  .040 has been up and down on weight. Right now my spine tester shows same as Gordons, I don't keep .030 so can't really say on it, but depending on which roll it comes from, if it's like the .040 it will vary. Sorry  can't be more help...

Is your glass spine test the same as an arrow spine test? Support the test piece in two places and put a load in between the supports? How accurate have you found it for adjusting the stack to suit a new batch of glass?

I tried a spine tester like you mention that I made for wood arrows but 26" is just too much span. I just screwed a block to the side of my glass cut table, and use a spring clamp on 8" of glass past the block with another block clamped on top of glass.  I used Gordons as a standard bend with the weight with marks for different sizes on side of table since Gordons is  usually pretty close .  The test seems to be pretty close to what to expect.

Thanks for the details, I will have to keep that in mind if I start mixing and matching my fibreglass pieces.
