Just makes sense
« on: September 16, 2021, 07:11:57 AM »
Like many I am always looking for new advice on shooting and becoming a better shot and for me Rod Jenkins is who I just can't get enough of. He has a way to communicate the art of shooting in a way that I can't help to learn from. Sometimes it's something real simple that he says, such as taking a strong shot vs a weak one, that when I put that to practice I et clear results and good feedback from my shot. I'm sure we all have a Guru we lean to, who are some of yours?

Learned quiet a bit from Jeff Kavanagh and Clay Hayes.  Both have a number of instructional videos on YouTube.  I enjoy watching and listening to most traditional archers as there often seems to be morsels of wisdom coming from unexpected sources.  Archery and Golf . . . the more I know the more questions I develop.

The last game-changing advice I got was from Terry Green via the TradGang DVD! Has helped me a ton.

Tom Clum Sr's video on back tension helps.  His explanation of how plucking the release damages the shoulder is good.

Kidwell's book helped too.

Sometimes we find the advice that fits our unique approach to bows, and how we use them.

I can afford to shoot most any bow I like.  And I like Primal Tech bows.

Arne Moe, he’s a member here. Same level instructor as Tom Clum, I believe.

A video of me shooting is the only real coaching I've had for a while now. I had a pretty good background in Olympic recurve before I started shooting my stickbows a lot more and started bowhunting, so to be honest, and hopefully this doesn't sound arrogant, I don't really find myself learning much form-wise from anyone online in particular. If I see something wrong with my shot, I can usually diagnose and fix it or work on fixing it, and if I really can't figure it out, I go back to my extensive notes I used to keep. On the mental side, I gotta say I don't find anything to be simple, it's kind of a lifelong battle, and that's what makes it fun. I do enjoy watching bowhunting channels like the guys over at The Push or Clay Hayes, and I grew up on Jimmy Blackmon videos.
