Good luck New York bowhunters!
« on: September 30, 2021, 10:19:00 AM »
The northern zone early archery season opened Monday, and most of the rest of the state opens tomorrow.  Good luck to everyone!  Hunt safe and wear a harness if you hunt from the trees.  Let us know how your hunting is going, and please post some pics of your time in the woods!

Thanks Ron, good luck to yourself and everyone else. I’ve taken two deer already but haven’t hunted in over week.  I’d rather hunt NY than any of the 2 nearby states.
I’m off tomo, looking fwd to it. Nothing cooler than first light on the first day. Tear em up boys! Now where to try first.

Good luck and BE SAFE!!!!  Wear your harness WITH a lifeline when ascending and descending.  A 58 year old bowhunter died the other day in Queensbury, Warren County when he was climbing down.  The Sheriff thinks he lost his footing and fell 20-25 feet.  He was found dead at the base of the tree.
My season was over before it even started due to the rampant EHD in my area.  I will still go out and sit among the beauty that God has provided, just not kill any deer.

Well boys I don’t see any harvest pics, ugh I shoulda had a few. Saw 2 dif bucks Fri morn. Could t get shot. Last night saw lots deer but had a shot at small doe only.
This morn took the cake. I hadn’t seen nothing for a couple hours. It was cold, 40 degrees and I guess I wasn’t dressed for it so I stood up to stretch my legs and move blood around. Looking down hill. My hearing is real bad, when I looked back up a rack buck is close and closing. He comes straight in, actually starts smelling my tree. I’m looking down at him through the grate of the stand. Starts feeding in a spot I couldn’t shoot and never gave me a good opportunity.
Had things to do so I didn’t make tonight but tomo morn. On a positive note another primal Styx arrived today and I got to shoot that.

Bowguy67, You are seeing critters, that's not normal this early, I think the cold weather has helped. Nice looking new bow...

Thanks, I typically see quite a few early. As a kid I’d be tagged out w 2 bucks, when we could shoot 2 bucks, in a week.
It’s harder now being deaf in one ear, hard of hearing in the other. Dominant  eye has no peripheral vision and can’t see clear at all. Little like being a kid again though. Just deer hunting and not worried about what rack he’s carrying is sorta nice. It also puts the challenge back in a challenging season. Makes rewards even sweeter.  I’ve got 2 already so a little selective but that was only a so/so rack today yet I woulda shot him given the limitations.
We gotta thank God for every day we get to be out there.
I’ve been at this over 40 years now but I still love every sunrise like the first one. Funny how a camera never seems to capture how beautiful it is. Maybe a good one but def not a phone nor anything I have. I find myself most mornings trying to capture it to no avail imo. Can’t capture walks in the dark either no matter how cool the sky is. Pic from this morn was so vibrant pink but the phone don’t think so

Since the full moon and a couple of cooler days things are really picking up in WNY . All my friends are reporting way more activity and especially more bigger buck daytime movement since Tuesday. Neighbor just saw a nice 10pt dogging three does. Several friends are getting daytime cell cam photos of bucks that are new or previously nocturnal only. After passing on several smaller bucks this season I took a 9pt Friday am . An easy 17 yd shot and he was down almost immediately the way we all want it to go. I know if I go out now I'll have to watch a  monster or two walk by (happened some other years !) but when it feels right and I know I can make the shot it happens.  Good luck to all .

Went over the cabin....

Cut some wood. Checked the trail cameras. (couple legal bucks, but not the 2 big 8pts we have pics of?)
Did some scouting.... Drank some beer.... Killed a stump at 28yds!!  :archer:
