Trail cam battery hack
« on: October 07, 2021, 12:21:21 PM »
I'm probably the last guy to try this, but it worked well.

I had a cam that the batteries died in and there was some corrosion. Put new batterie in and still dead.

Hmmm , scraped a bit on the corrosion and wasn't happy with it, so since the batteries were in a tray that pops out, I poured some vinegar in it.  Foamed for a bit, then I rinsed it out with water and set it under the ceiling fan to dry.

Worked great!

So in case anyone else has never tried it, here ya go. LOL

I think if the cam doesn't have a battery tray, I would apply vinegar with a Q tip...
Stay sharp, Kenny.

White or brown vinegar?  Had a headlamp that did the same thing, might have to give it a try.  I always forget to remove the batteries when not in use for a long time.

It was white vinegar, it really cleaned the contacts up well.

Interesting, as I would have thought baking soda was in order.  Thought batteries leaked acid.  I know I used to clean up my battery posts on my vehicles with soda.   :dunno:

I’m gonna give this a try! I have 3 or 4 cams that would work fine except the battery tray is all corroded!

Thanks for the tip!

Rinsed good with water , think that’s neutralized enough?  :dunno:

Being an old electrician, i have to say - "contact cleaner is your friend", and vinegar works well.  ;)

P.S.

Rinse with a mixture of baking soda an water first. That will neutralize the acidity of the vinegar.
Then rinse again with straight water, and dry.

Vinegar is what's used to clean old rasps and files too.

Yep, tried that earlier, after you told me.  Works great, sharp as new.

Maybe Mom was right, works on everything!
