Picked up a new hobby
« on: October 09, 2021, 09:46:48 PM »
There’s so much talent on here, it’s amazing really… hopefully some day I can turn out pieces even remotely near what some of y’all can.

Have been wanting to make my own for some time now.
I have been piecing together some kit for the last few years, along with on and off reading what not to do  :biglaugh: :  Just recently I finally got around to picking up a grinder - went with an AmeriBrade 2x72

Both knives are 01 - the fist was strictly stock removal, and the second I forged is some distal taper and a small “keeslar flare”
Heat treating in a wood/coal/charcoal forge in a muffle which is actually surprisingly easy. Edges clean up to hair whittling easily, and hold up with no rolls or chips when flexed over brass or rolling out cuts on bamboo chopsticks or antler.

Decided to whip up a sheath for the skinner before sending it off to a friend. A lot to learn on the leather side still. Ignore my greasy prints all over the blade… it had a lot of oil on it from messing about wet forming the sheath.
