I start to get nervous if I haven’t downed a deer by the time blackpowder season starts. But this season, the heat and lack of activity on my land kinda killed my motivation to hunt. Especially this past evening. It was 85 degrees with a howling south wind. And from the Facebook posts from both hunters I know and the local deer processors, nobody was seeing or killing much. But the old saying “You can’t kill em if you ain’t there.” hung in my head. So I packed up my gear and headed out.
Luck and the Almighty was on my side tonite as this buck presented to me a nice 4-5 yard shot. 10 seconds later I heard him crash in a cedar thicket. He even graced me with the convenience of dying 20 yards from the road.
Celebrated my first of the year with a root beer and a Fuente Opus X on the ride home.
