Grey 2" glass
« on: October 26, 2021, 01:05:35 PM »
I know this is a long shot but does any happen to have any 2" wide grey fiberglass or know of some one with some. I know it has been discontinued by Gordons a while back and have checked with all the main sources for it and they are all out.  We have a customer that is really wanting the grey if we can locate some

How about a grey veneer under clear glass?

Man made or dyed. Hell, you could use some thin grey fabric or paper. Get creative, if thats your thing and you have a fussy client to satisfy.

I am not crazy about some of the stuff you come up with but I do appreciate that you think out of the box...  Good on Yah, buddy...

Somewhere back a year or so there was discussion about using coloured/patterned rice paper under clear lams to increase the artistic options on a bow. That sort of method would work fine to give grey limbs as well. I did some searching for it but came up empty this morning.

Last time I looked there was no room left in that box.

I am not sure rice paper is the answer for this...  A standard thickness paper colored gray would work... The rice paper I worked with is thin and gets mostly transparent when wet out with resin...  It would be good with a design or logo printed on it and you would to see the wood grain underneath it...

Left, green dye on maple core--center, 1963 Damon Howatt recurve with Green Thermo glass --Right , green dye under glass.
As you can see not even close when glued to glass.
It would take a lot of trial and error to get it right.

I've used the pink and blue under bear paw clear and was very happy with it.

Something else you could do, would be to put an epoxy gel coat on the back side of some clear glass.
