Firsr deer with a recurve
« on: October 27, 2021, 10:44:12 AM »
Finally got it done with a recurve. My girlfriend and i had recently built a ground blind big enough so she can start hunting too. This was the first sit in it since completion. Around 6:20 i had 2 does come in from behind me working their way towards the pond dam. I had to wait for a shot simply due to the design of the window support brace but as luck would have it this one came right into my shooting window 10-15 feet away. I was using my stalker coyote fxt which is 60" and 57#@28". The arrow was an Easton axis 260 spine with a 300 grain tuffhead out front. Couldn't have asked for a better shot and the arrow didn't even seem to slow down on its way through. I found my arrow buried in the ground about 20 yards behind where she was standing. I watched her loop around the pond and disappear into the woods which left me worried that she covered so much open ground but was grated with a blood trail a blind guy could follow despite the rain and she only went about 40 yards into the woods. This was my first non bone hit with a single bevel and i was amazed to see how the head had rotated just going through tissue.

Nice! Congrats! Bet that blind is more comfortable to sit in than one of those stupid tent type ones!

That blind is way more comfortable than the ones that are like pop up tents. Everything to build it came out of our scrap dumpster at work. Plywood came from shipping crates they were going to send off to be burnt and all of the boards were going to the same place as well due to buggy lumber (we are a food grade facility). I have some 10'x10' pallets made from hard wood 4x4's and hard wood 2x8's that are going to be turned into a flatbed for my work truck.

Dude that is a huge accomplishment!  Congratulations.  How long have you been shooting?  My goal is shoot enough this year, to be in a position where I feel comfortable enough to take a deer with a recurve by next season.
