Wooltimate woes
« on: October 30, 2021, 10:16:36 AM »
I bought some Cabelas Wooltimate with wind shear a few years ago for my late season hunting .

Over the years I’ve noticed deer look up at me more with it than any other camo I own . Even the spike yesterday looked me over carefully even tho I didn’t bat an eyelash.

Anybody else have this ?

Love the warmth but hate being scrutinized ...

Anything you can treat it with? I’ve done the sno seal UV wash ... :dunno:

Hummmm . . . don't own this, but the camo pattern looks pretty good to me.  Maybe a little light with not enough definition making it look like one solid, light color blotch to a deer.

If you tire of it, send it to Michigan and I'll gladly give it a try in the forest.  Needs to be man-sized though . . . at least XXL!   :goldtooth:

Light dusting with camo paint to adjust out the highlights. That is the problem IMO. But you will have to air it out for a long time, usually, then wash before a hunt to remove any remaining odor. However, it works and if it gets washed once a year lasts awhile.

I buy RIT dye, mix it up, then paint it on.  Done that with stuff before camo even became a "thing".

I agree with the assessment that there's not enough contrast.  Are your bottoms of the same material?  I often wear two different camo and/or solid patterns on the top and bottom.

RIT sounds better than my camo paint idea. Dull down the highlights.

I agree it needs some dark blotches, I tried black RIT dye, and it almost seemed worse. Wondered if it had UV brighteners in it. Washed in Woolite, then uv killer  so back to original

Yesterday had a spike come in ,never moved except the tree swaying in the 25 mph winds. He stopped ,looked up at me for a few seconds and took a couple hops.

About ready to try flat black paint which I've done to a couple other items...
Stay sharp, Kenny.

I would get an XL or XXL predator camo pullover LS T-shirt and put it on over the wooltimate. Cut some holes so you can get to the pockets -- problem solved.

I have the wooltimate vest and one armed jacket (used be 2 arms, but I didn’t like the bulk on my bow arm, so I cut the left sleeve off and sewed it up to look nice). I’ve never noticed critters pegging more with it than other camo. Disclaimer: I don’t wear it much down here because we usually don’t get weather cold enough for it.

Thanks guys, I did some dusting with flat black, will be warm enough for the unlined wool for awhile so it can lose the stink. Hanging in the barn now...

What i do with my cold weather clothes is wear my ASAT leafy suit top (sometimes the pants too) over the cold weather stuff. Most of my cold weather gear is not camo and much of it is a solid color, which is usually quite a bit cheaper. The ASAT leafy suit is very light weight and the 2XL fits over my regular 2XL clothes. I do wear an elastic sleeve type arm guard when wearing the leafy top. I can't recall getting busted while wearing the leafy suit.

I seem to be the only one, but this is recurring enough that I hate it...  It's not movement, or being winded, just seems to be glowing or something.  :dunno:

You might try shining a UV light on it and see what you get.

Hmmmmm.  Are they always picking you up in the same stand? Could be they just have your stand pegged?

Was going to do that but can't find the blacklight I bought to try on blood trails.

No not same stand, and we add limbs to any stand that needs cover so don't think that is it either.

But when a spike , about the dumbest deer in the woods, picks me off when I didn't bat an eyelash, something is off...
