A Tribute To My Dad
« on: November 05, 2021, 11:44:07 AM »
My dad was a hobby knifemaker for 40 years. He passed away a week ago today and I am sitting here putting my final thoughts together for his memorial service. I have this knife he built for me 30 years ago sitting on the table as I look over my notes regarding what I plan to say about him tomorrow. As a preacher for over 30 years I have conducted over 200 funerals, but this is the toughest one thus far. We were the same kind of different. He built knives as a hobby and I built bows.

Sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. I know how you feel. I lost my Dad when I was 16 years old. I still treasure my Buck 102 woodsman knife my Dad bought me when I was 12 years old.

Being a preacher myself I don't see how I could do that.  My hat is off to you sir!  What a wonderful thing to do for him.  Remember all the good times!

Sorry for your loss.It can be a tough and introspective time when a man looses his dad.I felt a bit lost when my dad died for awhile

Maybe you could put some of the special mementos the 2 of you shared in the casket.

So sorry to hear about your Dad's ascension.  I always carry "his" pocket folding knife with me, he gave it to me when I was 8, it was my Grandfather's. I cherish the memories of him, and know how hard it is for you right now.  May God rest his soul and give you strength to forge ahead through this tough time.

Sorry for your loss . . . I feel your pain.  Lost my Father on Aug 18 at almost 92.  He was my hero, hunting mentor and role model.  Whitetail season is deeply special this year as I wander the forest trying to find a way to fill the hole . . .

I'm very sorry for your loss and my prayers are with you & your family.  My dad passed away earlier this year and I gave his eulogy, so I can somewhat sympathize with you.  When my dad passed, us kids each got a little bit of his ashes.  I sent a pinch off to Dick Roberston.  He and Yote built me a new longbow and put those ashes into the build.  Dad was a lifelong traditional bowhunter and I could think of no better way to honor him than to "take him" hunting with me.  Again, my thoughts and prayers are with you.  God bless.
