I started making knives in the late 90s and focused on full tang knives until about 2001. Then I started making hidden, take-down knives and have stuck with that almost exclusively.
I recently got inspired to create some new full-tang knives and really like the design possibility. There is still not the wider creativity available on hidden tang knives, but they certainly have their enthusiasts.
I forged this blade from a 1 1/8" round bar of W1 and clay processed it to have a hamon.
It has a full tapered tang.
The scales are Cocobolo and assembled with what I call Bullseye Pins. The stainless insert keeps from splitting the handle material when peening the pins.
I do have a few other profiles and sizes on paper and will be making more of these with Damascus and stainless San-Mai.
