Staring on wooden arrows
« on: May 02, 2008, 04:01:00 PM »
Hello, I'm new to the whole archery thing.  It's something I've wanted to do since I was a kid, but I just never got started - nobody in my family hunted is probably the majr reason.

Anyway,  I purchased a 64" recurve that pulls 45# @28 inches.  I draw 30" - and have been shooting away since December with some easton aluminum arrows (2016) with 125gr field points.  I'm happy with my progress, but I really want to start shooting wood now that I actually hit the target on most shots!

I'm unsure how to proceed, as I feel like my set-up works for me now, but I don't know how to translate the arrow/head combo I have to a wood equivalent...plus I need to start practicing with broadheads for the upcoming season.

Any guidelines?
Is there a way to shoot field points for practice and switch right over to a broadhead with the same flight?

There is not a lot of this type of thing down here in San Diego, and it is hard to find information...so thanks in advance!
Thanks,
Jim Anderson

Jim......there is Alot of this going on down in San Diego.  I'm Mark, we will be shooting at the Balboa range this weekend. 3D shoot starts sunday at 9am, your more than welcome. We have alot of Trad shooters down here. If there's anything I can do to help, let me know. I can answer most of your questions. While in the Navy I started working at the Bow N Arrow shop in lakeside then a friend and I started Willow Creek Archery. Just give me a ring 760-815-2586.....

Mark...Hey thanks!  I bought my bow and all my stuff from Willow Creek!  I got the feeling that they were not that into the trad thing, but maybe I was wrong.  I would love to come to the shoot this weekend. I'm sure that a club type setting would be the best way to learn.  I'll look up the balboa range and be there @ 0900.

Thanks again.
Thanks,
Jim Anderson
