Right and left shelf recurve
« on: December 14, 2021, 08:55:52 PM »
Looking for info on the right or left hand recurve one piece or take down made by turning the bow upside down. By using the right hand side that limb is the top limb and by flipping the bow upside down, the left hand shelf on the riser on the opposite side on the lower limb became the top limb and the right hand shelf side and limb is now the bottom limb.
I know it was made by several bowyers but can’t find info now that I am looking for info. Thanks Gary

Me too. The only dual shelf style I have seen looks like this;

I've built selfbows like you described but never seen a glass bow like that.

There was a guy last year at the Tennessee Classic that had them for sale.

Bear made several dual shelf bows. The Alaskan comes to mind. Their "Halloween " color combo bow is one I have saw that was a dual shelf.

But never saw one you flipped.

Hillbilly, ask Mike Treadway about the double shelf bow he made for a friend of ours. He said he'd never make another one and actually bought it back from Alan when he decided to sell it so nobody else could get it. It is a nice bow, though.

I will! We are supposed to go to CTA Jan 8th. He has been mentoring me on bow making. Hopefully going to spend some time in January "helping" him a few Saturdays.

You'll learn a lot from Mike. He is one of the best, most innovative bowyers out there plus he's a heck of a nice guy. Tell him hey for me when you see him.

Gary the one I saw had a straight grip with 2 shelves, one below the grip and one above the grip.

What is it you wanted to know Gary? :dunno:
I guess you would have to heel it to make it shoot right

That's certainly is an interesting design!

But I think I'll stick to my shelfless 'shoot off the hand' designs -- less work!

With that shelf arrangement, the bows must be symmetrical?

Mad Max, just interested in seeing pics of this arrangement. I still remember seeing a riser with opposing shelves on both sides of the riser. But these are interesting. Thanks for all the replies. Gary
