Which Black Widow
« on: December 23, 2021, 09:40:15 PM »
I think I am going to do a test drive of a Black Widow, However I am torn between a PCH and a PSA takedown. I am going to get a 60 inch with 50# limbs. Does anyone have any input or suggestions on which bow?

If you have a really long draw you might opt for the PCH with its longer limb.

If you want more mass weight the PSA.Less mass weight the PCH.

Some guys like the longer sight window on the on the PSA.

I think you will get many different opinions on which one archers like more.

You can’t beat a PCH. It’s my favorite and is a really good shooting bow. It does have a shorter riser which in turn makes it have a shorter sight window , not sure if that would bother you or not.

Go up to Kalamazoo next month and compare all the bows.

My personal favorite is a PSA the sight window is perfect, as is the mass weight. I have 2 of them and have had several. I’ve tried a lot of different top tier recurves but quit wasting money and came back to my PSA’s

Both great bows.  I hope you have better luck than I did with test-drive. They had none in stock.

As others have said, both great bows. I have a 60” psa I hunt with out west for elk, and a pch at 58” I use for deer and turkey back home. The 58” pch is awesome in the tree stand and turkey blind. I’m at 29” draw length for what it’s worth. Killed a bunch with both, practice with both throughout the year without noticing much of a difference. Both are tough as hell!

Here's a vote for PCH but not against PSA.  :D

For close hunting, ground blinds, tree stands, forest roves - the 58" compact PCH powerhouse is perfect.

I've shot them all and came up with the PCH - but your mileage will vary.
As others have said, the only way you'll know is to pick one up and start flinging arrows.

The REAL question is of course, RED or NO RED?

Good luck, you'll love it no matter what you choose!

I have had both; I prefer the PCH. However, I also normally prefer a shorter bow, so take that into consideration with my recommendation.

Take a road trip to Nexa Missouri and try out all the choices. It is well worth the trip.

It would be easier to give you a recommendation if you posted your DL and experiences with other bows, hint, hint- grin

Of the two that you mentioned, I like the PSA.

It is no doubt a tough decision. I don't think I'll go wrong with either one. My draw length is 27 inches and I have been shooting a 60 inch Fleetwood takedown recurve.

Well here is  something to think about. With your  27" draw  here are your options.   According to Widows charts You can go as short as a 56" bow in the PCH.  In the PSA You can go as short as a 58" bow.  If you have use for a short bow The PCH is a good choice.  If you want to stay at 60" the PSA is probably the better choice.. Only you can decide what's the most important features your looking for  .... good luck and let us know we like pics.....

The folks over at Widow are very helpful on the telephone in trying to narrow down choices and reasons for same.

One of the things they got me thinking about was shorter riser with longer limbs. In other words have a 58" bow with KB or PA but the KB would have longer limbs. Presumably a bit smoother on the draw?  However, I opted for PA (or PSA for the TD) to have a bit larger sight window.

I have a 30.5 inch draw, I had a 60" PAX,PTFX,PSAX and PCHX. For my draw, the PCH is surely the smoothest and the most accurate for me. I liked them all, all very solid shooting bows and the Black Widow crew is the best!

Black Widow has a legendary history that has been well deserved. Each model has its own specially designed characteristics.
Traditional archer preferences are quite individualistic and my choice may be another’s last choice. I have owned both PCH’s and PSA’s and have a PMA with carbon limbs on order. The PCH is an excellent shooter yet after many 1000’s of rounds and many trips to the field, I much prefer the feel of the PSA. My own personal pursuit of comfort and shooting pleasure is a hi priority. Again, on the contrary, others may prefer the PCH.

Try before you buy if possible.
