Hi All,
I have had a 70's vintage Bear Kodiak Hunter 60" AMO 50# for the better part of a year now (Serial: KT35132) and been shooting it religiously with a FF flemish twist string. I recently found out that was a risky combination because of the age of the bow, and so I checked the nocks for wear and, sure enough (and to my horror), there is the beginning of a groove being cut into the material. I love this bow. It shoots like a dream, even with my long draw. I killed my first deer this year with this bow. I want to take care of it as best as I can and shoot it for years and years to come.
A) Is there a good way to reinforce the damaged area? I have included pictures. I thought of putting just a drop of super glue over the area. Is that crazy/stupid? Any better suggestions?
B) I tried switching to B55 and, while I think it feels gummy and weak compared to FF, I could get used to it, but my biggest problem is with string creep. It won't stop. After I shoot it a couple of times my brace height is different, even after a period where I thought it was "broken in". Any tips on getting B55 to settle in?
C) I really like the feel of the FF strings compared to B55 and I've tried to pad the loops of my FF string with some yarn (see picture) Do you think this will work to help mitigate the risk of FF? Anyone have experience doing anything like this?
Any advice or input from some more experienced people would be greatly appreciated!
