Double grind grinders? What's your experience with them?
« on: January 02, 2022, 07:55:28 PM »
I got into processing my own meat a few years ago.  I started with the CHEAPEST electric grinder I could find until I knew if I wanted to continue making my own sausages and burger meat.  Well, I am and now I want to take the training wheels off and get a grinder with some speed and horsepower to it.  LEM makes some with dual cutters and dual grind plates to streamline double ground sausage making.

Does anyone have experience with this technology?  Do you like it or not so much?  If you have a dual grind grinder can you also run it as a single grind for hamburger meat and what not?

I just bought a LEM  grinder this fall , saw they had the double grind option but didn’t buy it .

I guess it runs the coarse wheel then the finer one so you grind burger in one pass instead of grinding coarse then Going again finer ...
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Been processing my own for about 40 years.  The double grind option sounds pretty nice.  I would probably opt for it if you have the extra funds.  It's a pain grinding the second pass. I often just grind once on the fine plate.  Lazy I guess. Also, I wish I would have went the next size bigger!  I grind elk. deer, bear, domestic Hogs and beef. I love knowing how my meat was taken care of when processed and also that I get my own meat back!

May need to start this myself.  Especially, if the hogs keep falling down.
