That Texas heart shot was a Javi that turned quickly at the shot. The arrow entered in front of the hip and stopped just under the skin on the opposite shoulder. The damage to the lungs was impressive and complete. It died very quickly. The broad head was a woodsman.

You betcha!  Congratulations, on some good eatin'.  Had a young 6 pt totally swap ends and head in opposite direction.  At 6 yards went from a lung hit to a ham hit, 30 yard recovery.  Luck of the Irish!

He was quick, but that Centaur was quicker!

Back to Uh Oh 2....

Joe and I decided to circle a tank that the javies had been running laps around.  The wind was in our face, so we decided Joe would go right, and I would go left to play the wind in our favor....

As I rounded the midway arc, I saw a gang of them ahead coming my way. ....

There was a 10 to 12 foot berm to my left that would be a perfect vantage point as the wind was still just perfect.

I climbed up and hid behind a picklypear/mesquite blind that created a great wall of protection from being spied upon.  It should only be a few moments now....

Somehow, someway, somereason they vanished.  I descended the berm and moved ahead to do the spying now.  After a few dozens of yards, I was clueless as to where they had gone.

By then I was at the halfway point, and there was no Joe.....

So, I started back around to get my wind out of the equation if Joe was onto something. As I returned to our starting point, there was still no Joe, but a really nice black javie headed on Joe's initial route..... meaning the wind was right.... for me....

Pardon me, last night with the boys....

I'll try and catch up today during plane rides... till then we are enjoying another pot of the Pinhote Roast.

This is a beautifully blended recipe that has been comented to be a close 2nd to the High Noon blend by the group.  This group of guys, save Ronnie and Bodie, had all sampled the 4 brews from last year.  I'm looking forward to the reviews from the next gang coming soon...

And we're enjoying a javie sausage with deer fat from last year's bounties with Shifty's Red.....

There was no Joe,  but there was  dapper looking Javie ahead dresses as if he was headed to a black tie event yet starring down the road, not in my direction.   He seemed to have spotted something or someone... Ah, maybe Joe.

It seems that was the case as he was very nervous and reluctant to graze or move ahead much.... very skiddish.  He still was 'kinda/sorta' making forward progress, but I decided to dig in just in case Dr Tuxedo swapped ends on account of Joe.....

The story of the Dapper Javi, Mr Tuxedo, is pretty good. I'll let Terry tell it. It was an exciting "pincer movement" technique with a little change in the wind making things happen in a hurry.

..... or any other reason. Well, that's exactly what happened, hackles went up, and north became south,  with a rapid trot proceeding.  I was ready for him to enter the window of opportunity, which was a blink of an eye away....

Now lifting off from Dallas.... more later...  :campfire:

So, I’m working my way back around the pond with a cross wind giving me an advantage to my right front. A doe catches my movement and trots through the prickly pear and mesquite tangles. I am on a quiet and smooth deer trail that goes out to the narrow dirt road. I am working to stay as hidden as possible using the mesquite and cactus to break up my outline. I was slowly scanning ahead for the javelina that I knew were somewhere near. Then I catch a patch of black through a tangle of mesquite. There is a big javelina boar working his way toward me. I try to ease to my right a bit to use a tall prickly pear as cover and to open up a shooting lane. If he doesn’t turn a bit he will catch the cross wind before he is broadside, and I don’t want to take a quartering front shot. Then I see Terry cross thirty or so yards behind him and disappear behind a bend in the trail. If the javelina stays on the trail between us then we might get him. The situation is good but the wind is tricky.

As Joe said, the wind was tricky for him on his cross wind, yet from my vantage point it luckily was not an issue....

Dr Tuxedo trotted into the window and without him missing a stride I let him have it....

A loud audible report from him after the fletching disappeared in the boiler room was the scene at hand and again he swapped ends for only dozen yards, then he dove into the brush thrashing, crashing and popping is teeth, then total silence.

After a brief moment of assessment, I slowly stood and moved to my arrow to inspect. It looked good, and I turned to see Joe just inside the brush on the opposite side of where Dr Tuxedo dove in.  Joe pointed to the location and gave me the 'he's dead' pose of arms spread head down.  Joe and I backed out down wind for about 30 yards to chat about the events before we set up for me to move in.  Joe stalked up to about 10 yards to where he entered the brush and I went to a 'cut through' sendaro that was real close to the entrance and cut in from the down side.  This way if we both were wrong, would could either get another arrow in him is he tried to escape or at least see his exit route.....

Not far along at all, I spotted this....
