So I won two knives at Tradfest this past weekend. That one looks to be made out of a farriers rasp. The other was aMora with a fire starter in the handle.
I think you will find that bow has good manners and good cast. Glad you like it.

Those are nice Chris! I thought they were spliced until I zoomed in. What wood are they?

They are pistachio.  Picked them up from Kevin Connor over at Wood From the West.  Pistachio orchards cut down unproductive trees and graft new saplings onto those rootstocks, which gives them those weird, sharp demarcation lines.  The orchards were using those cut trees for firewood so Kevin grabs as much as he can and cuts into bow veneers among other things.  This wood, in my opinion, is so impressive that I use it almost exclusively.

Is that black walnut with an english walnut graft? or is it some type of fruit wood?    Kirk

I'm not sure what rootstocks they use at the orchards, but the scions are pistachio.

Well I made another rookie mistake the other day. I was cutting out my sight window and was going to use my table saw to cut along the top of my shelf. My youngest sons kept popping in and out wanting to go fishing, so trying to get in a hurry I cut on the wrong mark!  :banghead: :banghead:
I thought the bow was done, I’d have to start a new one. Then I thought I’d just glue a strip of Bacote in the cut with some EA-40. I ran a piece of Bacote through the thickness sander till it would fit in the slot, glued it in and let it dry. I sanded everything down and I believe this is a fix to the mistake. Although noticeable, I believe it will hold. I’ve shot the bow probably 10-20 times. Ready for some final sanding and finish and it’s about done.
