They are pistachio. Picked them up from Kevin Connor over at Wood From the West. Pistachio orchards cut down unproductive trees and graft new saplings onto those rootstocks, which gives them those weird, sharp demarcation lines. The orchards were using those cut trees for firewood so Kevin grabs as much as he can and cuts into bow veneers among other things. This wood, in my opinion, is so impressive that I use it almost exclusively.
I get paranoid about even pressure and flatness when the pieces are long like that. The bocote is also 3/8" so I wasn't taking any chances!
Turned out well I think. Opinions welcome, tell me if it sucks now before it's glued into a bow! Looks good to me…Dave.
