I just had one come in 5 pounds over. What side is the best to trap ??

The back. You can narrow it substantially without running into the limits of the back FG lam to carry tension. The compression limits of the belly are much lower and narrowing it can get you into trouble much faster than the back.

Good news today!  The bosses are working to pull me from the class in Florida due to a sudden manning issue here.  Looks like I don't have to build in the grace period!

I'll set this bow aside and finish it later.  The veneers are too nice to trap away.  On to plan B.

I’m no glass bow builder, but could you sand the glass on the back and belly to reduce weight? It’s a really nice bow. It would be a shame to lose any of that veneer.

I'm going to snag a new set for my victim and just build it correctly this time :biglaugh:

I'll find a different home for the first one down the road.

Well, finally made it to town, and I guessed right, it was just as good as I’d hoped!!  Thanks very much Kenny, it’s beautifully made as expected!! I remember having commented on the grip in some of your earlier pics, and you were right - it fits perfectly. I love it!!  What is the wood?  Almost looks like cherry?
The only downside was the comment by the attractive Assistant/Photographer “It seems to shoot better than you normally do?”   :archer2:  Such is life.
Regards!

Glad you like it Noah! It is cherry thru and thru.  Trying to get a nostalgic look on it.

After seeing the bow you made for the swap, I almost started over on a fancier model   :wavey:! !

Oh ,tell the photographer it's new bow syndrome. Every new bow I make I shoot lights out til I start thinking about the next one...
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Found something to do with one of the doorstops I have in a box that I just can't seem to throw in the  fire.

Thanks again for the blade and a fine shooting bow!

I spent a few hours today getting ready to get a bow glued up. I got my bamboo flattened and tapered, and also tapered the power lam and tip wedges. The belly lams are tempered and one is clamped in a bending caul. Tomorrow I will bend the other belly lam and I should get her glued up.
While I was planing the bamboo, I got a gentle reminder about being safe while working with power tools. I use push pads to plane bamboo lams, so that my fingers are at a safe distance from the knives. I felt a tug on my sleeve and I saw that the cuff was undone and it had gotten into the cutter head. Fortunately for me, it was just starting to make contact and I pulled it out pretty quickly.
I’m not usually this careless around machinery, and I sure kicked myself over this.
Then I thanked my guardian angel for being there in my moment of stupidity.
More tomorrow. Maybe some pictures too.
Dave.

I forgot to mention that this year’s bows are out of this world. I hope that my offering will be up to par.

My glue-up went well. Tight glue lines and everything almost straight.
Got it sanded and all was looking good. I put a string on it and it hinged. Eight inches from one end. 🤬🤬🤬

There it is, in all it’s glory. It felt like it was right on for weight too…
On to plan B.
I have these two risers ready to go.

One is blackwood and zebra wood. The other is canary wood. It’s the sister of the bow I built for last year’s swap. Any preferences?
Dave.
