Have been moving along on the riser, adding accents and additional overlays of Maple Burl.  Trying something a bit removed from my usual process, and adding an outer accent around the entire ends of the riser, eliminating as much end grain as possible.  Will see how it works out after cutting the grip and sight window and pulling all the tape.

I like that Uli! Very nice. Do you cut your shelf at center?

OOO thats a nice one for someone..
I managed to get my riser in and out of the profile jig today. The next step will be glass or carbon on the front or maybe both. The last pic is the press for the front overlay. after that I have a jig to glue overlays on the limb pad area also.

Very nice Mike!  One day I’d love to have a sander like that too, but I’d have to move the freezer out of the shop to make space, and the boss says that’s not likely, ever.

Travis, I cut the height of the radius of the shelf about 1/4” above center, and the window is cut 1/8” past center.

I'm curious why you chose to cut the shelf so low? Standard is 3/4"-7/8" above center.  Arlo

Glued on some overlays today, sorry no pics.   :dunno:

Two left to go and then to shaping riser ...
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Arlo - I like to keep the top of the grip hand and the arrow (on its rest) as close as possible. That being said, the 1/4” above center is approximate, and I will still be laying 2 layers of accent onto the shelf after its been cut and shaped. Depending on the rest used, the arrow might be closer to 3/4” above.  “Standard” in my opinion means a generally accepted norm, its not a rule, so anything that works well goes.

I glued glass and twill on the front of the riser. Will do the pads tomorrow.
I have seen shelves anywhere from almost center to 2 1/4 above center. Actually on one of my longbow designs I have one that was 2 in. Above center tillered 1/8 stronger bottom limb for me shot  better than anything else.

Just gonna call this clamped. Put twill on the limb pads. Had to do a lot of clamping so everything stays put.

Everything is roughed out, straight and poundage is good. Weather looks like crap this weekend so I should be able to get the overlays on and riser shaped.

I got the riser ground down to width. The twill looks pretty good on it. Got some wedges made. I have english sycamore for veneers Should leave them plain or light brown stain??
Or I might try newspaper veneer victim could read while waiting on deer.
