There’s some very impressive stuff showing up already!  Good thing this isn’t a competition!  Just gathering some limb components, Grandillo and Yew for the back under the clear glass, edge grain bamboo, black belly, Wenge wedge.  *Note to self - never buy Grandillo again!  :banghead:

That is gorgeous combo! New to all this, why no more Grandillo?

Stic, I think they’ll look good plain. The glue should darken them up a bit.

I’ve only ever seen it offered in small “turning” blocks, for pens or whatever, so when a 24” x 2” x 2” block showed up I figured I could use it for some laminations.  My bandsaw blade wants to do a U-turn the instant it hits it, so I had to switch to a bi-metal. The drum sander with 80 grit keeps clogging with burns, so it must have a high oil content. And I can’t use it on the tip of the limb if its a recurve cause even a .050 lam won’t make the turn.  Looks nice, but I’ll stick to figured or Claro walnut.

Done gluing overlays and got my tips roughed out. Might work on shaping the riser tomorrow. It's not gonna be fun, Shedua is hard stuff!

I’ve built one bow out of this block already and I didn’t have any problems with finish. I wonder if yours had some moisture in it still. I like the stuff but it sands hard.

Thanks PV, still have to even them up a little.
Dang Oldrawhide, That’s tough! I’ve been lucky so far with wood allergies making bows. I don’t use cocobolo though, I was fitting a set of grips on a 1911 once and it made my eyes and my nose feel it was on fire.

I was thinking I had a productive day yesterday till I pulled the tape off my overlays and one of them was taped on the sanded side. Pealed it off and it’s back in the oven with a new piece of glass.  :banghead:

Got everything ready for final sanding. Shoots good for me. I kinda like it, hopefully my pick thinks it's okay.

Thanks Kenny, I still have enough of that board for 2 more bows. I might have to build myself one out of it if I can ever get time.
