Seriously, the 'Like' button
« on: February 28, 2022, 08:37:41 AM »
I hope no one took offense to my response the other day.  I was just saying Tradgang had a like button before there was such a thing.... this guy...   Because there was no facebook, youtube, instagram when we started.

Anyhow, How many use the like buttons???

The reason I ask is some of us don't really use it, as they would rather post 'kudos' or something to personally acknowledge a thread.  Just wondering because some may think that less 'involvement' in personally acknowledging a thread might discourage folks from posting in the future.

I never got use to clicking the like button on youtube, and I'm never on facebook. I'm on Instagram a bit, again, don't have time but I do double tap some when I'm there.

So, lets see how many like the 'like' button.

I’ve never been on Facebook or instagram and I’m doing just fine. How much attention do grown men require? If your “needing” likes or acknowledgement for posting on this forum you got issues. Just my opinion. I mean don’t you guys get enough of that on Facebook and Instagram? How bout instead of trying to make hunting forums more like Facebook you leave at least one tiny part of the internet out of that mess?

The only other place I’ve ever used a “like” button is on YouTube.  I use YouTube almost exclusively for its “how-to” videos, and occasionally I’ll watch one that I might want to watch again sometime.  If I “like” it, I can easily find it again because it is listed in my profile with all the other videos I’ve liked in the past.

Of course I could use their search function, which is much the same as the search function here.  The main drawback is the number of hits you receive, which can be quite a chore to sort through, just like the search function here. Also, it is sometimes difficult to define your search so that you get the results you were looking for, especially when you have only a vague idea of what you are looking for in the first place.  But if you know you're looking for something that you “liked” in the past, it is easy to find.

For me, this is a much more useful feature than just expressing appreciation for some video or post that you thought was well done, although from YouTube’s standpoint, they no-doubt use “likes” to filter the results that are shown when you open the app, and advertisers use it to determine whose channel they will spend their $$ on, neither of which has much if any application here.

I don't have a problem with it, and what does it hurt exactly?

So it's there, no one said you had to click it.

What's wrong with some folks acknowledging  that they like what a guy posted?

With all the severe present problems going on in this world at this moment, I'm not going to fuss over the word "like".

I don't like the like button.  is good enough for me. I never got the concept of everyone having to like something or proclaim they do when  seems sufficient. Just old school I guess.

Don’t really matter either way - I’ve clicked it a few times but not too many.

What's the big deal? If you like it, use it. If you don't like it, ignore it. Even if we philosophically oppose it, that is no reason to disparage those who do like it. I prefer to write out approval or disapproval in a regular post, but I do understand that some don't agree with me. That's cool, but this is not a significant enough issue to argue about though. After all, how much better or worse bowhunter are we because we use the Like button? Perhaps it is time to close this topic.

I have used it a few time but when I do, I still leave a comment and a  or something.

I will add, it does look like a pier score and our younger generation has been conditioned to getting participation trophies.

I only recently noticed it, and have used it a few times.  I mostly use my cell phone, and it can be a pain to type on it without making a ton of mistakes.  Sometimes if all I have to say is contratulations, or if I agree with what someone posted, I may hit the like button.

I'll tell ya what I don't like.

I don't like guys who shoot recurves....

I don't like guys who shoot carbon arrows either....

I don't even like guys who shoot metal broadheads.

Real bow hunters shoot wooden self bows, wooden arrows with turkey feathers and flint heads.

Wonder how many will hit the like button for me now?

I'm not on social media other than a few archery forums. I'm not technologically challenged (unless you ask my 15 year old son) and I like the "LIKE" button, no pun intended.

I enjoy coming here and reading the input of other members. I like to learn from them, read their stories, see the pictures etc. The "LIKE" button gives me the opportunity of acknowledging their contribution without me making a long winded, rambling post like this one  :biglaugh:

Howdy Roy, I'm doing great and hope you are as well!

This past season was a bit of a bust for me. I damaged my ulnar nerve in my bow arm during the season so shooting wasn't much fun and work got crazy busy so even after I healed up I didn't get much time in the woods. All good now, back to shooting daily, work has leveled off, and waiting on spring gobbler and trout season. I've been kicking around buying myself a new (or new to me, havent' decided yet) Bear Montana for my 50th birthday. I only own and hunt with recurves right now but you know, variety is the spice of life so they say.  :readit:

Roy, I'm trying to broaden my horizons.

What do you expect from a guy that grew up in Saltsburg and now resides in Boquet?  :knothead:
