Sheepeater Bow

Sheepeater glass bow

I ran across this Sheepeater Horn bow on the internet and a light bulb popped into my head

So I made a insert for the form and made my riser

I sanded some lams and got the form ready for glue up.
I used some streaky clear glass for the first one

In the hot box

Must be a big hot box, looks like your whole shop is in it.

Is this the same form you made the shorty bow from a few weeks ago?

Off the form and cleaned up the sides

Braced to high, need to make a string tomorrow and see how it bends when I draw it

Looks good, Mark. Looking forward to seeing full draw and how it shoots.

Whoa Dad!  Can you say finger pinch?   :scared: :scared:  That one is going to be tough getting off the string at a 90 degree string angle..... Just saying....  But..... Don't those guys that shoot that horse bow design typically use a thumb ring?    I just thought of that.  I've seen Korean bows like that being drawn clear past their ear.......Arlo

Yes -- those of us who primarily shoot short wood-horn-sinew or wood-glass replicas of Asian traditional bows often use a thumb ring and the arrow is held on the thumb side of the bow.  Alternatively there is a Slavic grip/release.  Like that Sheepeater bow and other NativeAmerican bows there are invariably no arrow shelves.  We shoot "off the hand" or "off the thumb".

Yes shoot with the thumb
Arrow goes on the opposite side of the rise, so Right handed shoots off the right side of the bow
