Maddog bows

Ok guys need your opinion on these bows? Seriously considering ordering one. Looking at Mountaineer model. Any one own one like your input.

I have his follower extreme and like it a lot. Quality craftsmanship and easy fellow to work with.

I have his Follower Extreme as well and it is a great ASL for the money. It is the only ASL that I own and it is very quiet and has no noticeable hand shock. He was very nice in person and delivered what I asked for and a short turn around. I think you would be well pleased.

I know this doesn’t necessarily help with model-specific info, but I will say I bought my son one of his Pup longbows. It is very well made—not what you’d expect from a kids’ bow! Mike was very responsive and got the bow delivered on time, which was already a short turnaround.

He also makes the bows for kids to giveaway regularly here on TG. I know that doesn’t speak to the quality of his products, but it does to his character. I like doing business with guys that invest in the Trad community!

I just looked at his web site and don't see anything about core wood choices so I am assuming the core would be maple, am I right? and only maple or "special" choices on riser wood.  For those who have bought from Mike what sort of choices did you have?

I had one,shouldn't have gotten rid of it.

I think that is the riser wood selection,I didn't see the limb core material anywhere either.

 I bought a 64" MadDog Mountaineer last fall and love it. Mine has a cocobolo riser and the limbs are red elm with clear glass. The bow is very smooth to draw and shoot. It's a beautiful bow, pictures here don't do it justice.

That is a beautiful bow!!! Really like the combo. I'm actually thinking of going with green glass.

I won a Pup several years ago for my grandson. This is a very nice beginner's bow, and I highly recommend it. Sammy Boy has outgrown it, but it is just perfect to pass down for Little Sister. I have a new Pup on order for the grandson, which should be here in a few more weeks. While I don't know much about Mike's other bows, I figure that if his entry level bows are nice, his more advanced ones should also be quite good.

Thanks for all the kinds words everyone.  But truth be told, having great customers makes it easier to remain motivated, and you all got that part covered. 
  Now on to limb core lams:  I use red elm.  Unless a customer insists I use something else, red elm is my go to core wood.  It's light, durable, fully, and quickly recovers, and it's hard to beat.  No bamboo, I'm so allergic to the dust I can barely stand to be around it.

I have a Red Elm core D-shape longbow for a different maker, but the bow shoots hard with that wood.

I just ordered another Maddog bow a week or two ago, for my 13yo daughter.  She's had 2 other Maddogs ... as a matter of fact, she ain't never had nothin' but a Maddog.  (That sounds like it ought to be a song...!)

If memory serves me right, between my daughters and nephews, I've gotten about 5 different bows from Mike, and we're satisfied customers!  Mike is a great guy to talk to, also.
