Anything like ETAR
« on: April 07, 2022, 02:49:30 PM »
I lived in New York state for about 30+ years and just about every one of those years I went to ETAR.
Now living in idaho for the last 6 yrs I've had trouble finding a shoot the size of ETAR here in the West.
Don't get me wrong , I've been to some great shoots here, going to WSTR next month but I'm curious as to where or who hosts the largest shoot in the rocky mountain/PNW area.

Good luck Kevin, there is no shoot in size like ETAR.  What makes the west as great as it is.. vast open spaces and low concentration of people.. Hard to get a huge group like ETAR together in these circumstances.

Compton is the closest you will find in size and it is generally about 1/3 or less in size.

I would love to be able to attend a western shoot, but due to my logistics, it is unlikely I will as a vendor. Don't let the size of the shoot sway you though. There are many great shoots that don't compare in size, but may tower over in fun factor.. As far as ranges go, the best I have ever seen or shot is the Tennessee Classic! without compare.

The weekend of May 7 and 8 the Libby archery club is having a Traditional 3D shoot in Libby Montana if you feel like making the trip. It's small but fun. 3 courses and camping on site.

Still a good ways away but it is in the West. The high country shoot put on by CTAS toward the end of June. Usually 400 to 500 people show up. Not a ton of vendors but some good ones. The ranges are fantastic and the country cant be beat.

My favorite shoots in California do not attract large numbers of participants.  For example, there is a two day trad only shoot in Petaluma and a two day trad only shoot in the foothills to the east of Fresno, both in the fall, that usually have around 200 participants.  These shoots have been put on since long before I became active in traditional archery 30 years ago.  Each year, I look forward to seeing “old friends” that I see only at these tournaments.

I pass on attending the big 3D shoot in Redding in May, because I do not enjoy being there with such a large number of people.  But it is coming up soon, and may offer you what you want.

Well I'm not opposed to traveling, my wife lived in Ukiah for a number of yrs.
She'd love a trip to Cali.
Colorado would be cool, only seen the airport in Denver.
Libby is definetly on my radar , have a friend living in Noxon Mt. . might pick him up on the way.
 Thanks for the replies .
