A memory of Allen Boice
« on: April 13, 2022, 12:00:41 PM »
As I saw some references to Chad Holm’s passing, I thought it would be good to remember another great man and bowyer, Allen Boice.

After he built me a Contender for me,  I had an opportunity to go on a special elk hunt.  I called Allen and told him I thought I needed another bow, a heavier one more suited for animals the size of elk.  Allen replied, “ I hate to see you buy a bow for just one hunt, I’ll send you one of my personal bows to use and when you are done with it just send it back!”

Allen had built three bows for me over the years and as I generally do after while, I sold them.  I was thinking about another build and as we talked about that, he told me he didn’t know how much longer he would be building bows; I told him he couldn’t stop building yet as I wanted one more Liberty. Sadly that was the last time I talked with him.

Never met Allen.  Have had a couple bowyers do similar things for me.  Good men all.

Had a few of his bows.A couple he custom made for me.A Contender,a Chief and the Edge his most radical bow.It was a really cool bow!The Chief he made me was off an an older form of the Chief that he stopped making.Wish he did not change it really. It shot beautifully and was very elegant.

He was real Gentleman and will be missed!!!

Allen was not only an awesome person but a phenomenal bowyer as well. I was undecided about two of the models that he built and he sent demos of both to me at his cost! I offered to pay him and he simply replied “you don’t pay to test drive a vehicle do you”? He will be missed. Prayers sent for his family and friends.       Tradcat

Gone way to soon ...
I think I have the last bows he made sitting in my rack....
A beautiful Yew Chief with a straight grip he had made for me on a few other bows over the years ....

Such a great guy to chat and deal with.

Sadly missed

Allen was an outstanding bowyer and a gentleman.  He will be missed.  I have two of his bows, a 64" Chief and a 60" Edge TD.  Both are excellent bows.  My wife grew up in Oregon and I always wanted a bow from an Oregonian bowyer.  I'm glad I had a chance to work with him on a custom bow, especially my Edge, which is all myrtlewood sourced from the Oregon coast.  On this particular bow he inscribed "II Cor 3:17."  In that scriptural reference it talks about "freedom."  Allen had freedom through his faith and it showed in how he dealt with customers and in his bows.  The spirit of Allen Boice and his bows will live on while my family and I chase critters over here in Hawaii.

God Speed.  Allen was a Sponsor for several years starting back in the mid 2000s.  He had a great following, and your testimony is the reason why.

Allen's Chief and Edge hanging in the backyard.  I just found a used Contender and it will soon be on its way to Oahu!

Yes Eric
If you are looking for a lighter bow that would be a dandy.  It’s priced pretty reasonable as well.  Looks like  Osage riser with maybe yew limbs? It is a classy looking bow.

I would agree that would be a great light bow.  I would have snatched it up, but sadly I'm a lefty.  If anyone sees a LH Liberty Longbow out there let me know.  I never got to shoot his English Hill styled bows.  Maybe some day...

I have a Liberty Classic that is a great bow.  I’m normally not too fond of a locator grip, but there is something about this one that fits my hand perfectly. It’s probably the quietest bow that I own also. RIP Allen
