My first wood arrows

I knew some of you only shoot wood.  And honestly I said I never wood.  (See what I did there 😁)  However some of the TBoT shoots are quite a drive and I never go.  I always make the excuse why bother for two short open rounds. 
Hopefully having some nice wood arrows will encourage me to go and shoot more meaningful rounds.

Ron French built these for me.  Hopefully I can keep them in foam and not destroy them. 
The yellow fades are for my 50lb Prmal Tech and the greens for the one Randy should be starting soon.

Very nice looking arrows!  I shoot mainly carbon these days but I'll always say ......  man there's not much prettier than some meticulously crafted wood arrows ..... and there's a feel to them too when shooting them that really can't be explained.    Nicely done and I hope you get to make meat with them

I may not win any 3D shoots with them but between them and my sweet looking and shooting Primal Tech I'll at least look good losing!

Nice looking arrows!  What are you going to take to Africa to use?  Wood or carbon?

Carbon.  Most likely 340 spine Beaman Centershot shafts. 
I got these for 3D but at some point I'll build some ugly woods to shoot some deer and pigs.  I have some Osage I need to split and get a self bow out of.    Definitely wanna shoot wood arrows though some game with them.

Those are really nice arrows. I shoot only wood, so they look especially good to me. I make a few arrows now and then, but I just don't have the skill or patience to do that kind of work. I'm sure you will enjoy them. Let me share a piece of advice Dan Quillian gave me way back when I bought my first longbow - "Don't fall in love with your arrows, 'cause you ain't gonna have 'em that long."

Wood is hard to beat, especially footed shafts.  I have a half dozen I've been rocking for a year.  Pass throughs on hogs and Javelina, just pick up arrow 15-20 yards past and go on.  Haven't shot a deer with these yet, but have with other wood arrows.  Big sharp broadhead cutting a good trail for the shaft is the way to go.  And it is right, that if you're not breaking arrows then you're not shooting.  Footed are my favorite with more FOC.

I believe that a beautifully crafted set of wood arrows defines archery even more so than the bow.I have not shot them in ages but I bought a half dozen inexpensive wood arrows for my longbow just days before I shot the recent tournament here in Texas.I was amazed at how well they shot.I actually posted a higher score shooting them than my carbons! I'm a fan- already ordered a set of nice ones.

Those look exceptional!
A while back a customer came by the shop and dropped off the arrows in the pic’s below.  Purchased from Herters in the late 60’s.  They were in his garage when he bought the place decades ago, and he never touched them.  Still in the original shipping box, with the Highwood, Montana address label.  No idea how they ended up in BC, but must have had an interesting journey.  They don’t look like they were ever shot, and most are still amazingly straight.  A few points were missing, probably dropped off from the glue drying out, and when I shot a couple to try them out the nocks blew apart.  The paint looks very dry as well.  They are 485 grains average, with points.  That’s lighter than my carbons!!  Original price was $7.98 per dozen.  Don’t know what I’ll do with them, but they sure are “cool” !!  Such a reminder of mailing out my own orders to Herters and then anticipating the arrival.
