R/D bow help

Looking to getting into a mild r/d bow to round out my collection. I have the asl, aggressive hybrid and recurve covered. 
I am looking for 64-66" max, mild/medium r/d with locator/recurve style grip.

So far what I have found is the Toelke whip, JT Traditional zuess, Northern Mist superior(rw grip), Maddog mountaineer, Schafer silvertip longbow. Comments on these or other suggestions are appreciated.

In my opinion a Pronghorn T/D is a great mild r/d that gives plenty of performance and is cat quiet to boot. I'm super impressed on how slim the bow is as a T/D and yet it is a super shooter. My only wish is that I had come across one sooner, it would of saved me a lot of searching.

I like the Dwyer original and Wes Wallace longbows a lot too

I've had a Toelke Whip, and I have a Schafer Silvertip longbow and a Fox Triple Crown.  All are top notch.  All have similar grips and mild r/d limbs. It would be strictly personal preference to decide among them, and my personal preference might be different from yours.

I just blew the dust off a form I haven’t used in years to help a young bowyer build his first bow. Check out this thread.  These are great shooting bows that I thought would appeal to the ASL fans, but the reflex and added preload put off a lot of the HH fans….  Might be just what you are looking for.

Pete, Herb built me a pronghorn for my safari to Africa in 06, wonderful bow but looking for a different grip.

Kirk will keep the boot hill in mind for the next bow, a reflexed asl. Since you have built several of your models for me I can't praise your ability enough.

Quite a few of these bows listed above are not really mild R&Ds IMO.Too much  reflex/deflex to fit the catagory

I would probably be looking at the Dwyer Original,or the Stewart listed above which is not the same as the Stewart Slammer.Its a mild R&D that strings into a classic D shape.

The Great Northern Critter Gitter is an excellant bow and fits your needs.A newer one is made by Saint Patrick Lake.Benoit has one I believe.Mad Dog makes a mild R&D.Northern Mist Superior as well.Hurst bows makes one.Great northern Bushbow is Mild R&D but has a wider Flatbow style limb.Thiers probably others.

The great northern and Saint Patrick Lake have tip inserts the last 5 inches or so of the limb.So they have a unique feature thier.

Many good ones from the past are no longer made.Like J.D Berry who does not offer one anymore in the traditional look.Although he has the Taipan with reverse handle mild R&D.He had several models over the years.But seems to concentrate on ASLs mostly now.

I struggle with the traditional longbow grip and much prefer a low wrist recurve type like the jager 2.0 low. All my other bows except the asl have it. Takes a while to get comfortable with the longbow handle in straight or locator. But that is just me. So the search is on.

Had a Taipan from JD years ago and it was very very nice but again the grip and I did not get along. He makes a fantastic bow.

By the way I miss Michigan in the fall around October 1. Wife is from Lakeville and I graduated undergrad at Oakland university. Right around the corner from Lake Orion.

I second the Great Northern Critter Gitter.  I've only owned the older models built by Jerry and Rick but it is great bow fitting the design you are asking about.

If I wanted to go back to an R/D style, I would break out one of my old Archery Traditions Bamboo Longhunter made by Dan Quillian. It is a rugged bow that shoots very well. I have always thought it performs right up there with a lot of the high profile pieces. They are not made any more, but they can be found if you look around.

Highly recommend  trying as many as possible to see what feels good to you. Hit up Compton in June  or Etar in in July. Or many of us bowyers offer a test drive program

This Bow we just finished up for a first time bowyer has the same issue with standard long bow grips. He wanted the traditional looking locator grip, but liked that flat spot of the Jager 2.0 too….. So we shaped the grip, and put a flat spot at 5 degree angle right where the thumb pad sets….. Bingo! Looks traditional, feels like a Jagar.

Agree with Steelhead's post.  Another good mild r/d longbow that no one has mentioned yet is a Robertson Vision.
