DIY Cresting Machine Motor Question for Electrically inclined

I bought a cheap sewing machine motor off of Amazon and in theory it works, but it spins way too fast and uncontrollably. Is there a way I could hook up a dimmer switch to it to slow it down? Any advice is appreciated. Attached a pic for reference of what I’ve got.

That foot pedal should control the speed.

It does but not well. Really tough to throttle it down and keep consistent.

...if that is an ac/dc universal type motor (it will have brush caps if it is), I would suggest a "router speed controller"...

Wonder if you could rig a bolt coming up through the foot peddle with a wing nut on top to set the speed.

This was the first thing I tried. The pedal just kinda sucks. Didn’t work well. It’s either all or nothing with no in between despite being a “variable speed.”

I am no genius or electrical wizard, I just bought a small desk fan at Walmart for $11.  Cut the cord to the fan and installed a dimmer switch.  Works like a charm!!  I would suggest doing that same thing and take the foot pedal right out of the equation.

If your really electrically challenged they make and sell an actual dimmer switch plug, no wiring needed just plug it in the wall plug the lamp, crester or whatever into the plug and the dial will dim it or slow it down.
