I never saw active duty while in the service. We (82 Airborne Division)were on alert and ready to go during the Cuban Crisis, but the Russians blinked so we didn't go. Later on I volunteered for Vietnam, but was told that I'd have to reenlist to go. That was okay, I didn't want it that bad.
In looking back, either one of these could have fatal. For those who went to Nam, many were killed or maimed. Many others were scared emotionally. It seems so unfair that only a few of them gave so much for the rest of us. Thanks to any of you who served in combat. We owe you!
