Like the edit.
I'm not much for idolizing folks I've not gotten to at least shared a campfire with, or gotten schooled by, or . . . These three men have proven themselves to be worthy of not only admiration as archers, hunters and mentors but as quality human beings who love The Lord and live life showing it.

Tough call, not into hero worship, though I did have a couple of old friends who have passed on that I admired.

Hard to narrow it to three so its four for me and hard to narrow it to that..

Living would be

Mike Mitten
Bryan Burkhardt
Darryl Quidort
Monty Browning
These four are all men of incredible ability, talent, drive and character.  As well as the love of the adventure.

Passed would be
Jay Massey
Bart Schleyer
Jim Hamm
Roger Rothaar

These men were great hunters and had amazing ability to build equipment.

Both lists could be added to by several men that I have known over the years. Walt Francis, Mark Baker, Paul Bruner, Glenn St Charles, Ed Scott.

Two I've read about and one I've met in person:

1.  G. Fred Asbell:  His book "Instinctive Shooting" was foundational to me when I was a young bowhunter.

2. Ishi: Fascinating story of survival set in a world before all the modern trappings.

3.  Glenn St. Charles:  I was lucky to meet him at his shop in Seattle when I was a young bowhunter.  He spent time with me, talking story and sharing his hunting adventures.  Before I left, he gifted me a signed copy of his book, "Bows on the Little Delta."

I cannot elevate some over the rest. In more recent times I think Ron LaClair, Paul Brunner and G Fred have been positive influencers. .

Fred Bear -- A genius inventor and innovator who was an ambassador for archery and bow hunting.

Ron Laclair -- Another ambassador for the sport. Without him, we might not have the modern, short longbow. His development of the Shrew has been legendary.

Terry Green -- His love of the sport brings us Trad Gang, the best traditional archery and bowhunting gathering place on the internet.

Lets see...Yes, in the book of Revelation Jesus is described riding a white horse with a bow in his hand. Def. Number 1

King David's friend Johnathan is mentioned as being quite good with his bow as well. No. 2

Number 3 ??? Me? I am a legend in my own mind!

Kind of like going fishing with only three lures. So many admirable and influential archers over the years.

If I could add another; the old man who lived in a cave back up on Paddy Mountain, who made his own bow, strings, arrows out of fiberglas shafts and broadheads.  Used to come to town once a year or so, for flour and salt.  Looked like a mountain man and I guess he was. Cica 1970.  Think about him from time to time.

Just to be different:

Little John (earliest ballads imply he was the best bowman in the gang)
John MacAndrew of Dalnhatnich, aka Ian Beg MacAindrea  (look it up)
Ron LaClair (there’s a story behind that)
