After a lot of shooting with different bows as I try to come down to the bow that I really want to commit to for deer hunting, the 60" Osage Bendy Bow is the one that just seems to be the bow for me. It is 40# at 26" and I actually draw 26 1/2". I was planning on shooting woodies but the 1816s sure are hard to beat in this bow. I am mainly hunting out of enclosed blinds this year and this bow will work quite easily. My intent is for five to 15 yards max, hoping for 10 or less. I made this bow last year and love it, it is about as simple as they get. A stick with a wrapped leather grip, no shelf except for the leather edge. No handle because it does bend slightly in the handle. I may try to make another bendy bow, just a little bit heavier around 45# and maybe a tad bit shorter around 58" or less. My friend James in Kansas sent me this piece of wood almost two years ago and it has been my best shooting selfbow that I have made so far. I had written on the bottom limb "Deer Slayer" last year when I made it and so now it is time for it to live up to the name. I haven't taken a deer yet with a selfbow, much less a bow that I have made. So, pretty excited about it.
