Got my new longbow on Monday. Dead pig on Thursday!
« on: August 18, 2022, 02:21:05 PM »
I had the weight of my Primal Tech longbow limbs reduced, and I also had a brand new riser built for said limbs. I finally got the new bow this past Monday. By Tuesday morning, I had a really well tuned arrow worked up.

Here is the new bow:

I have been struggling with my normal hunting weight bows for some time now. I decided to try a lower draw weight to see if that would help me gain some of the control over my shooting that I had always been accustomed to. I had these limbs reduced to 40# at my DL. After unpacking and putting her together, it didn’t take me but a few shots to figure out this was a good move. I immediately started shooting more consistently, and much more accurately than I had been with my 45-50# bows.

Fast forward 2 days to today, and I was getting along so well with her, I decided to take her pig hunting. As luck would have it, the pigs cooperated. A group of about 8 or 10 came in about 8:30. As soon as one gave me a good shot opportunity, I drew back and let an arrow fly. It was true to the mark, and I saw blood pouring out of the pig as it ran off.  I went back and got my tracking dog Zeke and put him on the trail. The shot was true, and the pig only went about 50yds. Zeke made quick work of it and led me right to her.

It was already starting to get hot, so I snapped a few pics and headed to the cleaning rack!

I really love my Primal Tech bows. I was worried about the low draw weight and hunting, but my arrow zipped thru that pig like it wasn’t even standing there. I’m not worried anymore!!!! I’m going to give it a few weeks and see if my shooting stays at the level it is now with the lighter weight. If it does, I’m probably going to have my recurve reduced also. It feels really good to have a little confidence back!!!!!

Congratulations Bisch.  I was hoping it would work for you.  Beautiful bow by the way.  That Madden fella knows how to make shooters and make em purty!
I can afford to shoot most any bow I like.  And I like Primal Tech bows.

Well done Sir, nothing like a little confidence boost. Yeah, you will be a happy camper now. Bow looks awesome and now it fits you even better. Sometimes our egos say that we have to keep doing something that in truth, we need to change. A good bow with the right tune and sharp broadheads even though a lighter poundage can still be a game getter like you just proved. Shot placement is the key anyways and when it is easier to make the shot because you shoot it better, good things will happen. Congrats on it all, let the critters beware!

Thanks Sam!!!! Where I live and hunt, there is no season for pigs. You can kill them 24/7/365. I try as hard as I can to get all that I can!!!!!

Nice...

As long as you hit the weakest spot on a hog like you did, penetration is not an issue.   You can about push your finger through that entrance on a hog.  Nice shot.

The real test will be sheild and/or ribs not in that spot.

Ya gave me an idea for a thread....  :campfire:

I agree, BUT, if it comes down to me shooting well with lighter weight, or crappy with heavier weight, I’ll take the lighter weight all day long!!!! I don’t normally shoot the big boars anyway if I have a choice. I don’t think I will have any problems on deer with the lower weight.

Last year I killed this boar with a 41# longbow and hit him dead center in the shield.

While he wasn’t a giant boar, he was decent sized. I would be hesitant to even try it with this bow on a really giant boar. I’ve had arrows do a dead stop in the shield on really big boars with my 50# bows!!!
